Vacations in Rome

If Romans believe one lifetime is not enough, then vacations in Rome can only touch the surface. This Eternal City will surprise and delight you at every turn, giving you the appetite to visit time and time again.

Discover the tales behind the Roman Forum and the Coliseum, find a space on the Spanish steps and throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain. Listen intently to the knowledgeable guides at the Vatican City, who have a wealth of information to share. Or equally as satisfying time can be spent in the exclusive Via Borgognona, shopping along Via Condotti and people watching from a café on the Piazza Navona.

City break escapes
Traditional little pizza store in Rome, Italy.

Rome is a fantastic place for a city break – you can squeeze the best main sights into 48 hours if you’re feeling energetic. Spend a morning in the Vatican Museums, culminating in an unmissable peek at the painted ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Grab a quick slice of pizza bianca for lunch – a Roman speciality – before climbing the dome of the enormous St Peter’s Basilica. After an absorbing afternoon in Rome’s Centro Storico (where you can pop in on the Pantheon), spend your second day in the archaeological parks at the Collosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill. Stay at the Morgana, right in the centre of the city.

Popular multi-centre breaks from Rome

Rome is a great base for exploring both northern and southern Italy: why not jump on a train or hire a car to visit Naples, Florence or Rome?

Rome - Naples
Cup of fresh espresso coffee in a cafe with view on Vesuvius mount in Naples, Campania, Southern Italy.

Drive south from Rome and in just two and a half hours you’ll be descending down into the glittering gulf of Naples. Whilst the gritty city is renowned for great pizza, the surrounding area offers even more tempting prospects: brooding Mount Versuvius, the Roman ruins at Pompeii and the cliffs and coves of the startlingly pretty Amalfi Coast. You can also reach Naples in just an hour and a half – by direct train.
