About tier points About tier points

Earning tier points on flights

You can earn tier points when you fly with us and our oneworld® alliance partners to help you reach the next tier in The British Airways Club and unlock more benefits.

How do I earn tier points?

£1 = 1 tier point

You'll earn 1 tier point for every GBP 1 of eligible spend* on British Airways flights.

Extra tier points

You’ll earn a fixed number of tier points per flight, based on the haul, cabin and fare type of your flight.

Bags, seating and SAF**

You'll earn 2 tier points for every £1 on add-ons, such as bags, seating and SAF contributions.***

*'Eligible spend' means every GBP 1 spent on your fare and any carrier-imposed charges added by the airline. Non-airline taxes and fees, such as airport charges and government taxes, are excluded.

**'Sustainable Aviation Fuels’ (‘SAF’) are defined in the Refuel EU Aviation Regulation as aviation fuels that are either synthetic aviation fuels, aviation biofuels or recycled carbon aviation fuels. For further information, please visit BA Better World.

***Applies to bookings flown and SAF contributions from 1 April 2026 onwards. SAF contributions are capped per membership year at 2,000 tier points from 1 April 2026.

More ways to earn extra tier points

As a member of The British Airways Club you automatically earn extra tier points on flights and holidays. From 1 April 2026, you'll earn extra tier points based on your fare type, as well as when you book flights with American Airlines or Iberia.

Extra tier points will be awarded based on the cabin you fly in, and the fare type you choose.* This includes flights taken as part of a British Airways Holidays package, but does not include Basic Economy fares.

*All extra tier points are per individual flight.

How extra tier points can help you reach the next tier

Here's examples of how different fare types can reduce the number of flights needed to reach Silver tier:

Buy: 10 Business return flights to Madrid

4,566 tier points* (57%)

You'll get: Extra tier points based on your fare type

3,500 tier points** (43%)

You've reached Silver tier

8,066 tier points and Silver tier achieved.

Buy: 6 Business Semi-Flex return flights to Madrid

4,423 tier points* (57%)

You'll get: Extra tier points based on your fare type

3,300 tier points** (43%)

You've reached Silver tier

7,723 tier points and Silver tier achieved.

*This is calculated on eligible spend, which is your fare and any carrier-imposed charges. Eligible spend is based on return flight prices in 2025.

**Extra tier points are based on the number of return flights and the fare type chosen.

More about earning tier points on flights

Discounts, vouchers and Reward Flights

If you use Avios part payment, you'll still earn tier points based on the full eligible spend for your booking, before the discount is applied.

You don't earn tier points on Reward Flights. But you can earn tier points on any eligible add-ons to your Reward Flight, including pre-paying for a preferred seat, adding extra baggage or promotional upgrades.

If you use a discount or voucher code, you'll earn tier points based on the total eligible spend after the discount is applied.

How can I see how many tier points I'll earn on my flights?

You can see your tier points estimation, including extra tier points, in the Review and Pay section of the booking flow, under Rewards.

Once you've made a booking, you can see how many tier points you'll earn in Manage My Booking.

After you've flown, you can see the tier points you've earned, including extra tier points, on the statement in your account.

Tier points for British Airways flights are credited to your account up to three days after the flight or eligible add-on has been used. Air partners can take up to seven days to credit.

If after this time, your tier points still aren't showing, you can make a claim using our missing Avios and tier points form.

Exceptions

For flights with some of our partner airlines, you'll earn tier points based on your cabin, booking class and a percentage of the miles flown. For these types of flights, you can see the information in the 'Other airlines' section below or use our flight calculator to get an estimate of how many tier points you’ll earn.

For negotiated fares on British Airways-marketed flights booked through travel management companies in the UK*, you’ll earn tier points based on the equivalent fare that was available on BA.com at the time your booking was made. For all other bookings made through travel agents or travel management companies and where the fare isn’t available or hasn’t been disclosed, you’ll earn tier points based on your cabin, booking class and a percentage of the miles flown.

*British Airways is not in control of the price charged by the travel management company to the end customer, and therefore we're awarding tier points based on the price the customer would have paid on BA.com, or higher, for UK point of sale.

FAQs

You must add your Club membership number every time you book a flight or holiday with us. The name and date of birth on your British Airways Club account must also match the details on your passport so that we can verify your tier points and award them automatically.

Tier points for British Airways flights are credited to your account up to three days after the flight or eligible add-on has been used. Air partners can take up to seven days to credit.

Tier points earned from a British Airways Holidays package take 7 days, after you’ve completed your trip, to credit.

If after this time, your tier points still aren't showing, you can make a claim using our missing Avios and tier points form.

You can only earn tier points for flights you take yourself, regardless of who made the booking or paid for the tickets.

For British Airways Holidays package bookings, tier points will be evenly split between the number of people on the booking and awarded after the trip is complete.

If you make any changes to your trip and your ticket price changes, the tier points you earn will be based on the total eligible spend for your updated ticket.

This includes upgrades; next time you decide to treat yourself and upgrade your cabin, either online or at the airport, you’ll earn 1 tier point for each £1 you spend on the upgrade.

If you pay in another currency, the amount you’ve spent is converted to GBP using the IATA five-day exchange rate that applied on the day of your purchase. We’ll use this converted amount to calculate your tier points.

Flights before 1 April 2026 will be awarded according to the original proposal

Other airlines

With some of our partner airlines your tier points will be calculated in the same way as British Airways, based on the price of your ticket.

For others, it will based on your cabin, booking class and a percentage of miles flown. For example, if the tier point award for a cabin is 12%, your tier points will be 12% of the miles flown.
