Assistance at London Gatwick Airport
At British Airways we want all our customers to be able to travel with confidence.
Working with our partners Wilson James at London Gatwick South Terminal, we offer travel assistance if you need extra support getting to the gate, boarding your flight and reaching your destination safely and comfortably.
Travel assistance includes:
- Wheelchair support, if you’re unable to walk long distances.
- High lift assistance, if you can’t use steps or stairs to board the aircraft.
- Aisle chairs, if you need help getting in or out of your seat on board.
- Assistance for customers who are blind or have low vision, are D/deaf or are hard of hearing, or who have another condition, including non-visible disabilities.
Where to go at London Gatwick
If you require assistance when you arrive at the airport, Gatwick Airport has assisted travel receptions at Drop Off points and other locations around the terminal. You can find out more about assisted travel at London Gatwick Airport.
British Airways has dedicated Accessibility Check-in desks in Zone A of the terminal building. You can check in and drop off bags here and collect your boarding pass if you’re travelling without checked baggage. The assistance team will be able to help you from the check-in area.
If you prefer to move independently, you’ll find self-mobilisation wheelchair bays on this floor as well.
Your mobility devices
If you have a wheelchair or mobility device you’d like to check in, you can use the dedicated British Airways Accessibility Desk. Alternatively, you can check in at our World Traveller Plus or Club World check-in desks, if you’re travelling in these cabins.
Electric wheelchairs and mobility devices:
If you have an electric wheelchair or mobility device, these can be checked in or you can use them to go to the gate. We’ll need some information about your device before you travel, which can be provided when booking your assistance through Manage My Booking. You’ll also be asked to fill out a form at check in, which may require the following details:
- The battery type, wattage and dimensions of your device.
- If you require your wheelchair to be brought to the aircraft door when you arrive at your final destination.
Manual wheelchairs:
You may be able to take your manual wheelchair onboard. You can find out more about travelling with your mobility device on our assistance hub.
If it’s not possible to bring your device with you into the cabin, it’ll be checked in and carried in the hold and returned to you at your arrival destination, either at the aircraft door or at baggage reclaim. Please let us know at check in if you require your device to be returned to the aircraft door.
British Airways lounges
If you’re a Club member with lounge access or travelling in a cabin that means you’re eligible to use our lounges, you can relax there before your flight. Please be aware that no flight information announcements are made in the lounges. A member of the Wilson James team will meet you in the lounge when it’s time to go to your gate. Your pick-up arrangements will be made with you at the Wilson James Desk before going through security.
Gate information
We recommend that you monitor airport departure screens for gate information and boarding announcements. You’ll find departure screens throughout the airport terminal, including our Club Lounges.
Boarding
If you’ve decided to travel through the airport independently, but require assistance to board the aircraft, please speak to a member of the Wilson James reception team. The team will let you know what time you need to arrive at the Wilson James collection point, to allow plenty of time to board the aircraft.
Need further help?
If you need further assistance when you’re in the terminal building, you can speak to a member of the British Airways team or visit one of the Wilson James reception areas.
