Tuscany holidays 2025

In this charmed Italian region, you’re never far from a winding road lined with cypresses, a glorious glass of wine or a masterpiece by Michelangelo. Visit Pisa where towers lean and Florence where Renaissance frescoes adorn ceilings. Hire a car to go beyond the cities and find medieval hilltop towns where truffles unfurl beneath sun-dappled oaks.

Lean into a relaxed pace of life

Beauty blossoms under the Tuscan sun: bunches of indigo Sangiovese grapes droop in vineyards and rows of velvety roses grow in gardens. The grapes are squeezed into wine – often Chianti – which is enjoyed on long evenings and paired with slowly-savoured patio dinners. You’ll grow accustomed to a gentle sway of life here. Plan your Tuscany holiday now.

Tuscany holiday FAQs

  1. In Florence, fine art and fine wine go hand in hand. You won’t be able to miss The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower with its bright marble facade. Make sure to also visit The Medici Chapels – one of them, Sagrestia Nuova, was designed by Michelangelo. Pop to a little wine window when you’re after a dash of vino. Try the one at Osteria Belle Donne.
  2. Pose for a Pisa picture. You know what to do: stand in Piazza del Duomo (AKA Piazza dei Miracoli) with your arm stretched out, pretending to hold up the leaning tower of Pisa. There’s actually more than one leaning tower in Pisa – the bell tower of Chiesa San Nicola is also tilted – so you can do it all again if the mood strikes.
  3. Take a day trip to Lucca and walk the city walls to peek down at the old town as the Apuan Alps and Pisan Mountain Range look down at you. See Piazza Anfiteatro’s ring of red-roofed buildings standing where crowds once cheered in an ancient Roman amphitheatre before ducking into trattorias and boutiques with doors that swing open under medieval-era signs.
  4. See Siena’s knots of alleyways and palaces, stopping at the black-and-white striped cathedral to join a ‘gate of heaven’ rooftop tour. You’ll be able to see the church’s marble mosaic floor (only uncovered at certain times of the year) laid out like a tapestry below. Look for Hermes, a reminder of the importance of wisdom, at the entrance.
  5. When you think of Tuscany, you probably picture something like Val d’Orcia. This region of sloping hills and winding roads, fields that seep into one another and cypresses silhouetted against the sun, is of endless inspiration to artists. Take it all in. Take dips in natural hot springs and take cooking classes to whip up dishes to pair with local wines.
