Canada's French cultural heritage informs every aspect of Quebec life - including the skiing. The narrow, cobbled streets and brightly painted buildings of Tremblant give this town a delightful Gallic feel. A holiday in this picturesque Laurentian Mountain town is the closest you will get to European-style skiing in North America. Tremblant is Eastern Canada's most popular ski resort. Although it offers a smaller piste area than some of the Western resorts, it has a genuine appeal to all levels of skier and snowboarder. The spread of terrain across Tremblant's four skiing areas, Versant Sud, Versant Nord, Versant Soleil and Edge offer a good variety for even the keenest skiers. The extensive lifts and excellent snowmaking mean that conditions stay good throughout the season. In addition, Tremblant's three large terrain parks, cross-country skiing and good childcare facilities give the resort a great all-round appeal.

Beginners

Tremblant has the superb, two-acre, Équilibre area dedicated to absolute beginner skiers and snowboarders. Here you will be able to master the basics with the assistance of the highly rated instructors. There are 16 easier green pistes to take advantage of as you progress. Many of the easiest ones are located in the Versant Sud area.

Intermediate

Both Versant Nord and Sud offer a good selection of blue runs through the trees and on the groomed slopes. The former faces the sun during the morning, whilst the latter is in the sunshine in the afternoon. Tremblant has 31 intermediate ski runs overall, whilst some of the easier black runs might be tempting for the more experienced intermediate.

Advanced

More than half of the trails in Tremblant are graded black or double black. Advanced skiers will enjoy the variety of steep and moguled runs across the four areas, with Edge in particular offering stiff challenges. For snowboarders there are 40 acres of ramps, jumps and rails across three separate terrain parks, the largest being Gravité. Freestyle skiers and snowboarders will also enjoy the Olympic calibre super-pipe.

Families

Average temperatures in Tremblant can fall as low as minus 15 degrees Celsius during January and February. It is worth keeping this in mind if you are travelling with young children. Aside from that, the tuition and childcare facilities are excellent here. Children from age 1 to 11 can be cared for until 9.30 pm and the ski school has small classes for children aged from 3 to 12 years old.

Early & late ski season

Temperatures drop to freezing in late October and snowfall increases dramatically at the beginning of November, meaning there is a good chance of an early start to the season. Temperatures can also stay low well into April so it is worth checking the weather and snowfall in Tremblant for the chance of a last-minute break early or late in the season.

Après ski

The pretty streets and colourful buildings of Tremblant make a truly beautiful setting for a skiing holiday. The French influence is reflected in the cafés, creperies and stylish designer clothing boutiques of the traffic-free centre. There is a good variety of different cuisine to sample in the restaurants of Tremblant - notably Mexican, Italian and, of course, French. Later in the evening, the main square has a great atmosphere - often showcasing live music. Café d'Époque, le Petit Caribou and La Forge are all popular bars in which to while away the evening in.
