A popular resort with British skiers for over 30 years, Sauze d'Oulx has a pretty, traffic-free village at its centre. Sauze d'Oulx is known for its lively après ski, which starts by the slopes and continues until the discos and nightclubs close in the small hours of the morning. Ski-buses serve the lifts that run from the outer village to the highest peak of Col Basset. From here you overlook the nearby town of Sestriere. The long, tree-lined slopes above Sauze d'Oulx are particularly suited to intermediate skiers and snowboarders. This is the biggest ski resort in the Milky Way ski area and offers splendid cruising terrain and a diverse aprés ski scene. Skiers and snowboarders looking to cover lots of terrain, and party into the night, will find Sauze d'Oulx to be a great choice.

Easy progression slopes are few and far between here, yet brave beginners will find that some of the red runs are gentler than on other mountains. It is easy to find ski schools offering English-speaking tutors in Sauze d'Oulx.

Confident intermediates will love Sauze d'Oulx. Skiers and snowboarders are bound to enjoy the high, undulating terrain and the peaceful cruising at the top of the mountain. The long pistes down to Jouvenceaux offer gentle, picturesque cruising on smooth slopes - this is perfect intermediate territory.

There are a few groomed pistes that experts will enjoy - the slopes below Moncrons for example, but advanced skiers and snowboarders will need to head off-piste to stay challenged. A guide can show you some exhilarating skiing in Sauze d'Oulx. The Double Black terrain park, in the Rio Nero bowl, offers a selection of jumps, spines and rails for freestyle skiers and snowboarders to express themselves on.

For non-skiing children, Sauze d'Oulx has a village nursery, La Cinciarella, which is open during the day and can also be booked for evenings. Local ski schools also offer group lessons for children, and finding English-speaking tutors is not a problem. Sauze d'Oulx's lively après ski scene means that the town can be noisy late into the night, but otherwise this is a good resort for families.

Après ski

Après ski in Sauze d'Oulx has a reputation for being lively and vibrant. You can quite literally party around the clock - and many visitors do just that. However, Sauze d'Oulx also has a more genteel aspect. There are plenty of places to spend a relaxing evening in. Il Capricorno, on the slopes, offers the chance to re-fuel after a long day of skiing and restaurants such as Il Cantun, Peccora Nera and Godfather are held in particularly high regard.
