An historic and grand spa resort, Bad Gastein is located in one of Austria’s largest ski areas. With so much snow and such a variety of terrain, all abilities of skier and snowboarder will find something to test them. Confident intermediate skiers will absolutely love it here, though, as will families.

 

Bad Gastein has five main skiing areas close by and two are accessible by lifts. In addition, ski buses, trains and roads link Bad Gastein with up to 30 resorts. This gives everyone a huge amount of choice when staying here.

 

The centre of the town is full of traditional buildings and steep streets. Above this is a more modern ski resort. From here, you can take a gondola or ski bus to different slopes. With so many ski runs in the region, car rental is recommended so you can explore more pistes.

 

Bad Gastein has 18 hot springs that are used for thermal water therapy and healing treatments. This is a great place to come for relaxing spa and beauty care.

Beginners

Schools and guides here are excellent. As you progress on to the slopes, there are several in the Schlossalm sector that are perfect for gentle cruising. If you’re looking for lots of pistes, though, you’ll need to have a car.

Intermediate

If you’re a confident intermediate, you’ll love Bad Gastein. There are plenty of long, testing red pistes for you to enjoy. Stick to the Schlossalm sector if you’re looking for a relaxing day skiing.

Advanced

There are a handful of testing black runs close to Bad Gastein. If you want to ski off-piste, there are plenty of areas across the five sectors. The slopes on nearby Sportgastein are superb and well worth the journey.

Families

Bad Gastein have great facilities for families. If you want a resort that has lots of snow and offers your children much to do, this is a good choice. You’ll find facilities for all day care, a ‘Fun Centre’ for kids and a snow adventure park at Angertal.

Après ski

Spa treatments and natural hot springs are the focus of Bad Gastein. However, there are also many bars and restaurants – and a casino too.

Dining in Bad Gastein offers a wide range of restaurants and some are outstanding. The restaurant in Hotel Gruner Baum is an award-winning venue. You’ll find several fondue restaurants in the town. If you wander round Bad Gastein, you’ll find plenty of warm, traditional restaurants that serve the perfect food after a long day skiing.

Bad Gastein has a relaxed atmosphere, but there are still some lively bars and discos. The bars near the Felsentherme outdoor baths are popular with skiers returning from the slopes. Later on, bars in the centre of town offer live music, and places to party into the night.
