Get a taste of the Wild West with a trip to Phoenix's hilly desert Papago
Park or see Native American art at the Heard Museum. Relax at the end of
a busy day of sightseeing with a massage at one of Phoenix's many spas. On a
return visit, you can go hiking in the Phoenix Mountains.
Background
As you fly into Phoenix you'll see a sprawl of twinkling lights surrounded
by spectacular desert scenery and towering mountain ranges. A haven in the Arizona
desert, Phoenix is home to some of America's best spas. The city
centre is modern and cosmopolitan with numerous art galleries and museums as
well as manicured gardens and golf courses. As you head out of the city, the
wilderness of the desert takes over. If you like hiking you'll love the
trails of the Phoenix Mountains Preserve. Explore the 46-mile Apache Trail or just
watch the sun set over the 'Valley of the Sun' from South Mountain
Park.
First-time visit
Stroll around the grounds of the exotic Papago Park and its beautiful Desert
Botanical Garden. Then head east to explore Scottsdale's innovative
art galleries. View Native American art at Phoenix's Heard Museum.
Then wind down at the end of the day with a pampering massage at the luxury
Arizona Biltmore Spa.
Return visit
Join hikers on the trail up to 2608-foot-high Piestewa Peak in the Phoenix
Mountains. This is one of the region's most popular hikes and worth
the effort for the panoramic views of Phoenix. See desert life at the Boyce
Thompson Arboretum, home to colourful desert plants and 250 species of
birds. Or if you're a keen golfer, compete on the world-class courses in
Apache Junction.
