Miami is the largest city in South Florida and offers many sights to discover for car rental tourists. A city of active pastimes such as golf, tennis and water sports (on either South Beach or Miami Beach), it is the surrounding area that promises most for car rental adventurers.

Just 35 miles drive from Miami, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Everglades National Park is well worth the visit. A 40-mile wide river of grass and shallow wetland, it is the only sub tropical preserve in North America.

Once reached by car rental, this stunning park is best explored by airboat or by cycling on one of the many bike trails. The region is home to many endangered species, such as the American crocodile, southern bald eagle and West Indian manatee.

We also recommend car rental to reach Cape Florida Lighthouse, off US Highway 1 on the southeast tip of Key Biscayne. The oldest surviving lighthouse in the state, it was built in 1825 to mark the Florida Reefs for ships entering Biscayne Bay.

Another great car rental journey is out to Hialeah Park, northwest of Miami. It contains one of the oldest and most important horse racing tracks in the US. Built in 1925, the park is modelled on Longchamps racecourse in France and a number of other courses in Britain. This fascinating historic area also features a lake with large flocks of pink flamingos, and would make an ideal way to end your car rental holiday in Miami.
