San Sebastian FAQs

You can fly from London City (LCY) to San Sebastian Airport (EAS) in just two hours.

The cheapest months to fly to San Sebastian are October to March, when it’s cooler. To find the cheapest flights to San Sebastian, use our low fare finder.

While San Sebastian is known for its world-class restaurants, there’s no shortage of great quality pintxos bars and cafes that cater to every budget. If you’re looking to save on costs, make your way to the Gros district for pintxo-pote Thursdays, where you can pick up a drink and delicious tapas for a set price.

San Sebastian’s coast is lined with luxury hotels and resorts, but there are guest houses and B&Bs for much less inland across the city. When it comes to museums and galleries, check out their websites before planning your itinerary, as there are often certain days of the week when entry is free.

San Sebastian Airport is close to the Spanish-French border and from there it’s just a 20-minute taxi ride to the city centre. You can also pre-book a shuttle service or take the bus from outside Arrivals, which runs once an hour.

Once you’ve arrived in San Sebastian, it’s easy to get around on foot or by public transport. The bus service is regular and comprehensive – and you can buy a pass rather than pay for individual journeys. Cycling is also popular thanks to there being over 77km of cycle paths.

San Sebastian’s appeal is in its versatility. You can laze on La Concha beach and drink local Txakoli wine at sunset one day and brush up on Basque history at the Museo Naval or Museo San Telmo the next. You can also get active and hire a bike to discover the city like a local, or hike up Monte Urgull for far-reaching ocean views. For the more adventurous, San Sebastian is the starting point for the Camino del Norte – an ambitious trek that’s traditionally a form of pilgrimage. The trail takes you the scenic route through the Basque Country along the northern shoreline of Spain, all the way to Bilbao.

Then of course, there’s the food. Come with an appetite and you won’t be disappointed, whether you’re bar hopping around Gros or living it up at a Michelin-starred restaurant – just remember to book in advance.

Citizens of the UK and Ireland and EU passport holders do not need a visa to visit Spain. If you hold a passport from a country or territory outside of these areas, you may need to apply for a visa before you travel. You can find out more about visa requirements for all the countries we fly to at the IATA Travel Centre.
