Where are the best places to stay in Barcelona?

With its cool fusion of urban hotspots and beachfront hangouts, Barcelona offers a plentiful array of places to stay. Play all day by the sea and along the city’s waterfront. Here, you’ll find La Barceloneta, Villa Olimpic, Port Olimpic and Port Vell – where you can relish the choice of restaurants and bars by the shoreline with calming water views.

The Gothic Quarter represents 21st century Barcelona – where the splendour of the ancient past coexists with a vibrant present. Follow enticing smells and sounds through a maze of narrow streets, lined with bars and boutiques. El Raval is an urban up-and-coming area that boasts some of Barcelona’s most impressive modern architecture. This area appeals to the alternative, artistic crowd, with hip hangouts and a less touristy feel.

The vibrant area of La Eixample is characterised by long straight streets on a grid system with wide tree-lined avenues crossing through. Its block is famous for showcasing buildings by four of Barcelona's most important and distinctive Modernist architects – such as Gaudí’s spectacular art nouveau Casa Batlló.

Choose the area of Sant Pere, La Ribera and El Born and explore one of the city’s oldest markets, Mercat de Santa Caterina. Check out the popular Museu Picasso whilst you’re here and take a look at the medieval Palau de la Musica Catalan. The lively, regenerated neighbourhood is a magnet for the city’s trendsetters, attracting an eclectic mix of people. The restaurants, clubs and cocktail bars are stylish but boast a friendly atmosphere.
