Luckily it escaped Allied bombs and is now serving a more peaceful purpose as a restaurant and lookout point, offering breathtaking views of the Alps. Enjoy a delicious traditional Bavarian lunch in the small town of Berchtesgaden, before heading underground to visit the secret world of the salt mines, a complicated tunnel system dating back over 500 years and the birthplace of the famous Bad Reichenhall brand of salt. Finally, it's back to the mountains for a trip to the Königssee or 'King’s Lake', formed by glaciers during the last ice age and well known as the cleanest lake in Germany.
