Experience all that Vegas has to offer
From all night gaming and round-the-clock entertainment to gourmet food and an eccentric culture – Vegas has it all.
Since its humble beginnings, the effervescent Las Vegas has exploded into one of the biggest cities dedicated to entertainment and gaming in the world.
It is impossible in such a city to have a ‘quiet’ time, with so many shows, casinos and parties open around the clock. Time is somehow meaningless, and this creates an atmosphere of freedom. So stroll along the main street, see the sharks in Mandalay Bay or a Cirque de Soleil extravaganza of your choice. Get your shopping fix at the fantastic malls of the Strip, before dining in some of the best restaurants on the west coast. Then in the evening, choose from musicals and concerts, big names stars and hilarious comedians to keep you entertained.
The casinos of Las Vegas are among the biggest and best in the world. Ranging from high-roller, super-luxurious resorts to fun, quirky and affordable places with a lot of atmosphere. Luxury casinos have an air of exclusivity, with vibrant gaming areas and risqué burlesque entertainment. They all have their own theme – Roman in Caesar’s Palace, Arthurian in Excalibur, tropical Polynesian in The Mirage, and Renaissance in The Venetian, plus many more.
Golf in Las Vegas is perfect due to the year-round sunny weather. Courses range in difficulty, from pitch and putt to championship-level play, so there is something for beginners or more adept players. Spend some time on lush fairways, keeping the ball out of water hazards and admire the celebrity-designed courses. Rock music fans will want to visit the KISS Monster Mini Golf, which has a glow in the dark course.
Vegas wouldn’t be the same without its incredible nightlife. From burlesque showgirls to zombie-inspired magic acts, there is an eclectic and electric atmosphere throughout the city. Add the amazing pool parties, 24-hour bars, thumping nightclubs and cocktail hangouts, and you are sure to have a great time. Make sure to check out the magnificent split-level Chandelier Bar at The Cosmopolitan, or the Downtown Cocktail Room – push a discreet door to enter – a stylish speakeasy in Downtown.
Las Vegas is home to fantastic shops, stalls and malls with plenty of opportunities to shop ‘til you drop. Luxury avenues, like the Via Bellagio, offer the upscale boutiques of Chanel, Gucci and Dior. Miracle Mile at Planet Hollywood boasts 170 stores and the Grand Canal at The Venetian, has singing Gondoliers to serenade shoppers. Or for a more unique experience, head down to the Downtown Container Park for shopping, food and live music.
Las Vegas boasts some fantastic restaurants, as more and more celebrity chefs are setting up shop. Gordon Ramsey’s brilliant BurGR at Planet Hollywood serves up the perfect burger. Or the Carnegie Deli at The Mirage is home to the overstuffed pastrami sandwich. Try the Caesar’s 24-hour buffet pass, so you can sample nine different hotel buffets. But those in the know head Downtown, where the hipsters have made their own – don’t miss a trip to Carson Kitchen, to relax on their roof garden.
While not exactly known for art and culture, like any major US city Vegas has an impressive art scene. The Cosmopolitan has a fantastic contemporary art programme including Art-o-Mat (cigarette machine converted to sell miniature pieces of art). Whilst the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art caters for admirers of the classics. You’ll also find modern classics at Nevada’s largest arts space, Art Encounter, and the wonderful Art Factory will give performance fans something to think about.
From the Mob Museum to the eerie graveyard of the old casino signs, the Neon Museum, there are some strange and quirky museums in Las Vegas. Check out the Erotic Heritage Museum for a few titillating stories of Vegas, or the National Atomic Testing Museum to learn more about Nevada’s nuclear past. And don’t miss the Pinball Hall of Fame, where you can play more than 100 pinball machines from throughout the 20th century.
Time can become a little abstract in Las Vegas. No clocks and 24-hour gaming can leave you feeling dazed and out of synch. Luckily for you, many restaurants are open-all-hours – perfect for after party nibbles. Our list of ten favourites serve food late into the night, and perhaps another drink or two.
