Holidays in Verona
Verona holidays are an introduction to the best of northern Italy. Verona’s old city, packed into a bend in the Adige River, has monuments such as the still intact Roman Borsari Gate and the 13th century Palazzo della Commune, and an elegant city culture on show in the high-end shops of Via Mazzini and the restaurants lining the banks of the River Adige.
Just outside the city are Valpolicella’s vineyards and the shores of Lake Garda, whose warm microclimate and dramatic sub-alpine setting attracts many visitors for swimming, sunbathing and water sports. For those seeking other historic cities nearby, little-visited Mantua is sometimes called “the Sleeping Beauty” by Italians, while the university town of Padua has Italy’s largest square. The Alps are also easily visible from the tower of Verona’s City Hall. Ideal for both hiking and skiing, the peaks of the Dolomite mountains are less than two hours’ drive from the city.
