Discover Hanover, the capital of Germany’s Lower Saxony region, where quaint half-timbered buildings and green open spaces sit perfectly alongside the city’s modern museums and galleries.
Fly from London to Hanover with British Airways for a culture fix in one of Germany’s most laid-back cities. Begin the day with a stroll around the Old Town to check out the city’s oldest church, Kreuzkirche, built in 1333. Then head over to the banks of the Leine River to see the palatial New Town Hall, the city’s most memorable landmark. While you’re there, take the lift to the building’s curved dome to soak up the views over the lake, parkland and city centre. Don’t miss nearby Maschsee Lake, lined with restaurants, a beach and a popular promenade that leads to the Sprengel Museum, which is home to an extensive modern art collection. Book your flight to Hanover today.
We have regular flights to Hanover departing from London with an average flight time of 1 hour and 35 minutes.
Many visitors enjoy Hanover during the warmer summer months, so you may find that flight prices to Hanover are cheaper between November and March.
Hanover isn’t known as a particularly expensive destination and its hotels, restaurants and attractions cater to all budgets. Some areas, such as the Old Town and around the main shopping streets, will have pricier options for drinking and dining than those off the beaten track. If you’re looking to keep your costs low, make sure you visit on a Friday when most of the museums are free to enter. You can also take yourself on a walking tour of the city by following the Red Thread – a painted line through the city that takes you past 36 of Hanover’s biggest attractions.
Getting from Hanover’s airport to the city centre is quick and easy. You can take the S-Bahn train from the airport’s Terminal C, which reaches Hannover Hauptbahnhof station in less than 20 minutes. There are also regular buses from the terminal and plenty of taxis waiting in line, which take around 25 minutes to reach the city.
Hanover is compact and walkable, so once you’re in the city centre you can easily reach the main attractions on foot. However, there’s always the option of riding the local buses and S-Bahn trains which take you anywhere you want to go.
You can hire a car with British Airways too if you want to see more of what Hanover has to offer. You’ll receive great benefits, with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support, plus you’ll collect Avios points on every rental.
Hanover is a pleasant city to explore with a mix of Medieval buildings and contemporary architecture to admire. Street art and modern sculptures are dotted around the city adding character at every turn, but it’s the abundance of green space that really sets it apart.
Without leaving the city, you can discover a vast expanse of woodland that’s almost twice the size of New York’s Central Park. Eilenriede is Europe’s largest urban forest, where you relax, cycle and stroll under the shade of the mature alder and pine trees.
Once you’ve navigated the forest and the popular Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen, brush up on your history at the Lower Saxony State Museum. Housed in an imposing neo-Renaissance building, not only can you learn about Germany’s rich past here, but you can see works by Rembrandt and Rubens and discover its impressive archaeology, natural history and ethnology collections.
