Book your next city break in Rome

Say ciao to a classical city break. Make Rome the centre of your world for a few days – after all, it was once the centre of classical civilisation. It’s the perfect setting for a civilised weekend away. Book your Rome holiday now.

Whether you come to Rome for pleasure, pilgrimage, weekend trip or Grand Tour, you can make the city your own. On a family city break, give kids a homework-free history lesson at the Castel D’Angelo. For a romantic holiday, take to the Trastevere neighbourhood. Away from the main piazzas there are little streets with vine-clad trattorias, hole-in the-wall wine bars and restaurants that claim to be the cradle of carbonara, Rome’s signature pasta dish. Salivating? No need to wait. For a gelato-meltingly hot holiday in Rome, book your flight and hotel with British Airways.

City break
Traditional pizza, Italy.

Rome is a fantastic place for a city break – you can squeeze the best main sights into 48 hours if you’re feeling energetic. Spend a morning in the Vatican Museums, culminating in an unmissable peek at the painted ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Grab a quick slice of pizza bianca for lunch – a Roman speciality – before climbing the dome of the enormous St Peter’s Basilica. After an absorbing afternoon in Rome’s Centro Storico (where you can pop in on the Pantheon), spend your second day in the archaeological parks at the Collosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill. Stay at the Morgana, right in the centre of the city.

Vacanze di successo a destinazioni multiple da Roma

Rome is a great base for exploring both northern and southern Italy: why not jump on a train or hire a car to visit Naples, Florence or Milan?

Roma - Napoli
Cup of fresh espresso coffee in a cafe with view on Vesuvius mount in Naples, Campania, Southern Italy.

Drive south from Rome and in just two and a half hours you’ll be descending down into the glittering gulf of Naples. Whilst the gritty city is renowned for great pizza, the surrounding area offers even more tempting prospects: brooding Mount Versuvius, the Roman ruins at Pompeii and the cliffs and coves of the startlingly pretty Amalfi Coast. You can also reach Naples in just an hour and a half – by direct train.

Trinità dei Monti e Fontana di Trevi
Roma.

Start in the very centre of Rome. Municipio I, the historic centre of Rome, is known as its Centro Storico. Here the monuments are many and the crowds are big – especially at the beautiful baroque Trevi Fountain. Duck to avoid the hail of coins flung into the pool as you pass its thronging square (the saying goes that if you thrown a coin into its pool, you’ll definitely return to the city). Nearby is the famous Via del Corso which is one of Rome’s main shopping streets and the Spanish Steps, a wide, sweeping staircase where people meet, sit and watch the world go by. Book a room at Hassler Roma and you’ll find yourself staying at the very top of the staircase.
