Things to do in Langkawi
Vita notturna
Duty-free since 1987, Langkawi has inexpensive alcohol, so you needn’t think twice before ordering a delicious lychee drink or a Singapore-brewed Tiger beer. Try the tiki hut-inspired Naam OMG! Bar for cocktails, live music and a party atmosphere. At the Four Seasons, splash out a little at the beautifully stylish Rhu Bar, serving spirits and shisha right on the beach.
Shopping
Artisan treasures and megamalls compete to gain space in your suitcase. Grab impulsive knick-knacks in the Temoyong Night Market alongside your duty-free shopping for perfume, jewellery and kitchenware from Langkawi Parade and Zon Duty Free in the Oriental Village. Chocolate lovers will be pleasantly surprised to find Coco Valley, an inexpensive treasure trove of duty-free chocolate both familiar and foreign.
Eating
Malaysian cuisine is fantastic. Not only can you pick up delicious and inexpensive local dishes like lemongrass chicken and exotic fruit, but the hotel restaurants serve great fusion dishes, too. The night markets move around the island and are held at a different spot every day of the week. For a special meal at sunset head to The Lighthouse Restaurant and Bar and enjoy Mediterranean and Malaysian dishes as you look out over the Andaman Sea.

You’ll find Langkawi’s iconic flying eagle statue in the town of Kuah. Look out for dusky leaf monkeys all around the island, with their distinctive dark ‘spectacled’ face markings. Take the cable car up to the top of mount Mat Cincang for views over the whole island. On the top, the dramatic Sky Bridge curves over the rainforest, providing exhilarating views. Later, join an excursion and tour the mangroves, with their sea caves and wild crocodiles.
