Always wanted your own pad in Ibiza? Book a villa holiday and you’ll come close to seeing what living on the island is really like. With your hire car ready for your early-morning bakery run and your swimming costume packed for an afternoon beach visit, spend the rest of your time unwinding inland with your own pool and outdoor barbecue in one of these traditionally-decorated Ibiza villas. Pick from villas near Santa Eulalia or San Juan to find your perfect set-up.

Santa Eulalia villas

Santa Eulalia is Ibiza’s third largest town – and one of its calmest. There are no mega-clubs here; instead, the vibe is sleepy. People saunter down the promenade or lounge on the beach. There’s a handful of restaurants, and a hippie market on Wednesdays in nearby San Carlos. However, all that might be about to change: the area is on the cusp of hipness now that the W Beach Club has opened. Plus, the famous Nikki Beach beach club is just outside town.

The fanciest villa residents use Ibiza Delivers to stock their larders, though you might find that the Santa Eulalia shops suit just fine. Santa Eulalia might be an increasingly popular tourist destination, but it’s also a working town and you’ll find it’s well stocked with stores. If you thought Ibiza was a golf-free zone, you’d be wrong. The island’s only club is nearby: Golf de Ibiza, which has two courses of 9 and 18 holes. There’s also a great nearby spa, at Aguas de Ibiza hotel.

Ca'n Joan d'Urban – three bedrooms

Lying just west of Santa Eulalia, you'll need to hire a car when you book this lovely three-bedroom villa, but the nearby bus stop is handy if some of your group want to pop out to Ibiza Town, while others want to drive straight to the beach. Set against a backdrop of olive and citrus trees, this traditional almost-bungalow has a smattering of lovely furnishings. You’ll probably end up eating most of your meals al fresco on the large, covered terrace thanks to your outdoor BBQ, but you can also walk to nearby restaurants: Es Caliu serves lovely lamb.

    Farm to table

There are plenty of island delicacies to try from the comfort of your own outdoor table. Ibiza has lovely local cheeses, almonds, honey and herbs..

Casa Laia Y Erika – three bedrooms

Set squarely between the Hippie Market and the Santa Eulalia port, Casa Laia Y Erika is perfect if you want to spend time by the pool. The gorgeous outdoor area, featuring a daybed under a bougainvillea-heaped pergola, is the best place to spend your afternoon. The property is named after the owner’s two daughters and sleeps six. There are two bathrooms, one of which is set in a charming domed room – think of that traditional whitewashed Mediterranean style. It's a memorable finishing touch to an already very pretty villa.

Villa Atzi – one bedroom

Share a romantic space together at little Villa Atzi. With just one bedroom, it’s perfect for a couple who want their own peaceful hideaway – and the garden area has more space than two people who like each other actually need. Spend the day lolling around at your pool before eating a meal under the stars. Villa Atzi is found on the road between San Carlas and Santa Eulalia, so you have the choice of the small town or the larger one for supplies. Drive just ten minutes and you’ll reach Es Figural beach – a pretty stretch of sand backed by wild hills and exclusive resorts.

San Juan

The rich and famous are colonising the north of Ibiza in their droves. Small, charming San Juan sits inland, just on the edge of this covetable quiet zone. A far cry from the flashy south, it’s the perfect setting for an exclusive villa escape – and it’s is practically the last village on the island. It might feel remote, but nothing is far away on Ibiza; you’re still only 25 minutes from Ibiza Town and ten minutes from some exclusive-feeling coastline. Drive up to the three beaches at Portinatx, a mini-resort on the northern tip of the island.

If you rent a villa in the San Juan area, you’ll find nice restaurants right on your doorstep – all villas are very close to the village – and close to each other too, so you could always rent two out at once for two families travelling together. People travel to this area to spend time chilling out at the uber-cool Giri Café: a haven for grown-up hippies with day beds dotted around its vegetable garden and a cocktail menu inspired by its herbaceous borders. On Sundays, a weekly artisan market springs up next to the church in the village – as if the area wasn’t already chichi enough. San Juan also has a small organic shop where you can get your groceries; stock up on essentials at Super Tirurit.

Can Baso – six bedrooms

Set over two storeys, Can Baso is a welcoming, spacious villa, sleeping up to 11 people. Place two of your party on barbecue duty; the kitchen features a massive charcoal grill just waiting to be tried out. Chuck on some lamb, some prawns or some summer vegetable skewers and sizzle your way to a sensational supper. In the evening, swap the outdoor pool for a round of pool in the villa’s games room.

Villa Es Taulell – three bedrooms

Start your Ibiza family holiday here. Villa Es Taulell has two storeys, perfect for parents who want a bit of privacy. The double bedroom sits upstairs with its own en-suite, whilst the two twin rooms are downstairs. Trees in the garden provide spots of natural shade – useful for your little ones. The pool is marginally bigger than those at Es Fexo or S’Olivera, and there’s a PS3 inside for your evening entertainment.

Villa S'Olivera – three bedrooms

This one storey, three-bedroom villa is slightly newer than other villa properties, with a lovely set-up outdoors. With a pool outdoors and a PS3 indoors, what more could you need? If you keep losing at video games, take a break and re-channel your competitive spirit into a handstand contest – held in the pool.
