Immerse yourself in the crazy labyrinth of streets that wind through Marrakech and delve deep into the Souks (Berber Market). Get a feel for the endless goods - just be wary that you will see countless shops and markets selling the same article with varying degrees of quality, so have a good look around before you part with your money. Then try your hand at haggling for a good price – and haggle hard is my best tip!
Marrakech is an old fortified city – make your way to the area around Guèliz to see the distinct architecture constructed in red sandstone, which has given this city its nickname – the 'Red City'.
It's worth exploring the winding streets around Rue Mouassine to find Café Arabe, located in the souk. The rooftop terraces are a delightful setting for a cocktail. If you struggle to find it, ask a local as they're sure to know of it!
Head to the hotel Les Jardins De La Medina, a tranquil haven, for some afternoon relaxation after a busy morning sightseeing in the bustling streets of Marrakech. Enjoy a peppermint tea while reliving the day’s activities.
Le Tobsil is a hidden gem in the souk – next to Riad Catalina, which is well signposted. It offers high-end Moroccan cuisine in a wonderfully romantic and atmospheric setting. A set meal is approximately 60 euros per person and includes several courses – more food than you can actually eat, plus unlimited house wine and an aperitif. You must book ahead if you want to go, though!
You need to experience Djemaa el-Fna Square, located in Marrakech’s Medina quarter. This square is relatively quiet by day, but really comes to life at night!
