Gaze in wonder at thousands of sweet-smelling blooms arranged in elaborate displays, as the New York Botanical Garden presents The Orchid Show: Chandeliers from 1 to 19 April. A colossal star-shaped chandelier of orchids will be the centrepiece of this stunning exhibition in the Garden’s striking Victorian-style glasshouse.

The floral finery continues when the Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival marches into town on 5 April. New Yorkers don their best bonnets for this centuries-old family event.

New York Botanical Garden’s Mother’s Day Weekend Garden Party on 9 and 10 May sees Daffodil Hill decorated with dancing, games, food trucks, casual picnicking and live music from 11am to 5pm.

Van Gogh Irises and Roses exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art opens on 12 May, coinciding with the 125 year anniversary since the blooming of the flowers that captivated his attention and strokes were put on canvas. This will be the first time all four paintings, two of irises and two of roses, have been reunited since the artist's death.

From 5 to 7 June Randall’s Island Park will be home to the Governors Ball Music Festival, a three-day outdoor music festival which welcomes Drake, The Black Keys, Florence + the Machine, Bjork and Lana Del Rey. Visit the mixology tent and food trucks at the Food & Shade Oasis, before kicking back in the picnic area and trying your hand at the lawn games.

The 11th annual Tour de Brooklyn takes place on 7 June and sees cyclists tackle 20 miles of Brooklyn's finest biking.

NYC Midsummer Night Swing arrives in NYC from 12 June until 12 July. Summer spirits are running high at the Lincoln Centre, as this outdoor dance party hosts 15 themed nights – which include swing, salsa, tango and rock ‘n’ roll.

Pit masters from New York and beyond descend on Madison Square Park for the annual, lip-smacking, Big Apple Barbecue Block Party on 13 and 14 June.

Listen to the collaborative jazz sounds of Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga at Radio City Music Hall from 19 to 23 June. To celebrate the continued success of Cheek To Cheek, Bennett and Gaga will be joined by a full orchestra, as they showcase their onstage chemistry through spectacular vocal duets.
