Podgorica Airport lies south of the city, just over six miles away. Whilst you can take a train or bus, the easiest way to make this journey is via car. You can either use a taxi service or simply add private transfers to your British Airways booking. If you plan on exploring areas outside of the city, why not hire a car?

Best time to go
Summer in Podgorica can be very hot, so you’ll likely feel a combination of Mediterranean and subtropical climates. As you’d expect, July and August are the hottest months, making this the perfect time to visit the national parks and coastal beaches of Montenegro. The coldest months with the highest rainfall are from December through to February.
What language do locals use?
The official language is Montenegrin, which shares similarities to the Serbian, Bosnian and Croatian languages. If you have a keen ear, you might discern different accents across different regions. You’ll also likely see that the street signs are written in the Montenegrin alphabet.
An Ostrog outing
Just over 26 miles from Podgorica, you’ll find one of the most outstanding attractions in Montenegro – the 17th century Ostrog Monastery. This religious site has been carefully carved into a 900-metre vertical clifftop, precariously overlooking the Zeta Valley. Find a peaceful setting, surrounded by unforgettable natural beauty. Many travellers will detour past the Niagara Waterfalls (named after the falls of Canada) and the Cijevna River Canyon on their journey.
