Spectacular sightseeing in Dalaman and beyond

Turkey’s turquoise coast offers an exciting blend of traditional flavour, spectacular natural beauty and exciting tourist attractions. You won’t be disappointed by the variety of things to do in Dalaman and the surrounding areas – there really is something for everyone.

The diversity of the resorts that line the Aegean coast make exploring worthwhile – from the tourist hub of Marmaris with its bustling bazaar and energetic nightlife to the Lycian tombs which are carved into the cliff faces near Fethiye. Hop on a Gullet and travel from bay to bay, enjoying access to secluded beaches and coastal villages. Or hire a car and see it all – tick idyllic Olu Deniz and the healing mud baths at Dalyan off your list.

Souk-style shopping.

Souk-style shopping

A treasure trove of goodies, the bazaar in Marmaris is bursting with shops selling everything from traditional Turkish food to imitation designer handbags and watches. If you’re in Fethiye on a Tuesday, make sure you visit the biggest market in the region. Navigate your way through the stands of exotic spices, locally made leather goods, rugs and ceramics, then haggle for bargains with the local dealers.

Sightseeing in surrounding areas.

Sightseeing in surrounding areas

Visit the ancient city of Kaunos, one of the oldest historical sites in southwest Turkey. Sprawled over a sloping site overlooking the sea, you’ll discover fascinating ancient treasures. Or lose yourself in Kayakoy, an abandoned ghost town where the decaying houses and churches still stand. Take a water taxi from Olu Deniz to picturesque Butterfly Valley or test out the therapeutic qualities of the Dalyan Mud Baths.

Turkish-style dining.

Turkish-style dining

Stop in one of the friendly local tavernas and sample traditional Turkish cuisine – dine out on delicious Mezze dishes and freshly caught seafood and fish. In many of the larger resorts you’ll find fast food stands – pick up stuffed potatoes or a traditional Donar kebab, washed down with Ayran, a cold yogurt beverage mixed with salt. If you’re looking for luxury, Akkaya Garden in Dalaman offers exquisite food and a magnificent valley setting.

Energetic nightlife .

Energetic nightlife

Your first stop for nightlife should be Marmaris, with its famous nocturnal scene. Bar street is bursting with open-air venues which are alive until the early hours. Nearby Longbeach boasts restaurants, pubs and karaoke hotspots. Hisaronu comes alive in summer with its cocktail bars and live music, while the restaurants of Olu Deniz transform after dark. See waiters dancing on the tables and enjoy live music in Icmeler or join the locals on the promenade at Fethiye.

Flawless beaches and coastline.

Flawless beaches and coastline

Olu Deniz is thought to be the most beautiful beach in Turkey and after one glimpse you’ll understand why. It’s hard to resist the enticing waters of the turquoise lagoon – why not try diving and canoeing or take in the sights whilst parasailing. Take a two hour boat ride from Marmaris to the silk sands of Cleopatra Island or head to Istuzu, which is home to the protected loggerhead turtles.
