You’re going to Switzerland, but flights to Basel actually land in France. Within minutes you are in a Rhineland town where (other than English) German is the dominant language.
It’s a gateway to the Black Forest in one direction, Alsace in the other, and the Swiss Jura in a third. Borders don’t mean very much here, but holidays in Basel itself really offer something different. The city combines winding medieval streets with cutting edge architecture. You can be sipping fine wines with rich bankers on the terrace of the Trois Rois one night and going on an ex-pat pub crawl the next.
