Thanks to its proximity to the equator, Ghana is generally warm all year round, but it’s best to avoid the country’s two rainy seasons. The main one is from April to July, but small rainy windows also occur from September to November.

Ghana's two major cities, Accra and Kumasi, both operate minibus services, also known as tro tros. Taxis are another common form of transportation in cities, but if you're travelling further afield then hop on a bus. Most of them are air-conditioned and some have charging ports, screens, toilets and even fridges. Make sure you book in advance as they can get busy.

The second-most populous country in West Africa is teeming with rich culture, wild nature and important history. There are over 28 UNESCO-approved forts and castles to discover, as well as vibrant communities like Jamestown, a port town home to a 92ft-tall lighthouse. The busy streets of Accra offer plenty to keep you busy too, from museums and markets to beaches and nightlife. Plus, there are plenty of opportunities to see some of Africa’s incredible wildlife, including crocodiles and baboons.
