Exclusive Victoria Beckham interview with British Airways: Star on her ‘blessed’ family, how travel and America have changed her, why husband David inspires her and plans for making 2017 #unforgettable.

How has flying changed your life?

I love getting on a plane. It’s the only time when my phone is switched off, no-one is sending me emails and I can just spend time on me.

Because when you’re a busy mum you don’t really have a lot of time to really, really relax. As a working mother, you should never feel guilty, you should feel proud. You’re inspiring your children in the right way, being a strong woman going to work.

My life would be so different if I had never stepped on a plane... I’ve had the opportunity to visit some incredible countries, experience many different cultures, but being in London is home.

Ever since we were really, really small my mother always encouraged us to look smart and that is something that has stuck with me.

So every time I travel now I’ll get on the plane in something nice, then I’ll change into my tracksuit halfway through the flight and then I’ll make sure that I always look presentable when I get to the other end, just because that’s how my parents brought us up.

Top tip: My flying guide would be drink lots of water, try and sleep, take a good book and use the time to really, really relax.

Where is your favourite family holiday destination?

My favourite family holiday destination would be LA. We lived in LA for a long, long time and it’s always great to go back when the children have time off of school. You can hike, you can surf, you can shop - so many great things to do in LA. And New York because I have offices here, I have a business here.

My life would be so different if I had never stepped on a plane. We always had really lovely family holidays. I’m very close to my brother and sister - and both my parents.

I really do encourage the children to travel. They’re very, very fortunate. They know they’re blessed, very lucky. They’re in an incredible position so absolutely it’s very, very important for the boys - and Harper - to see as much of the world as they can.

What is your most unforgettable travel memory?

I’ve been travelling around the world for as long as I can remember and British Airways really has been a huge part of my life. The trip that has left me most inspired would be the time that I flew to Ethiopia working with the UN. It was incredible. I met some fantastic people, some strong women that really have changed my life.

The biggest influence in my life would definitely be David. He’s an incredible husband, he’s a fantastic father, he does an enormous amount of philanthropic work, so he inspires me every day.

The biggest thing living in the US has taught me is the glass is always half full. I’d love to open shops in the US at some point as my brand grows. America is very, very important to me.

How do you plan to make 2017 #Unforgettable?

There is so much that I want to do in 2017 - so much with my business. I’d love to go to Japan, I’d love to go back to Korea. I’ve had the opportunity to visit some incredible countries, experience many different cultures, but being in London is home.

There are so many great things you can do in Britain. Museums, art galleries, the parks. You can go to the ballet. I feel most at home when I’m in London because I’m with David and the kids. London is a fantastic city. We march to the beat of our own drum.
