Waldorf-Astoria History, New York.

A hotel of legendary status, New York’s Waldorf-Astoria boasts an unrivalled heritage. The original building was built in 1893 on the site of the mansion owned by millionaire William Waldorf, and was the tallest hotel in the world when it opened. Four years later it was joined by sister hotel, the Astoria, but demolished in 1929 to make way for the Empire State Building. Two years later the second Waldorf-Astoria opened on Park Avenue, where it proudly remains.
