Holidays in Frankfurt
With over 40 museums in town, Frankfurt city breaks are ideal for art lovers. From the Städel museum’s large old master collection to the tiny Museum of Applied Art, the city’s riverside is studded with galleries, complemented by the embankment’s Saturday flea market.
Elsewhere, Frankfurt’s mix of modern towers with an old town of slanting, half-timbered houses gives it one of Europe’s most striking cityscapes – only London comes close to its jarring contrasts. And while business powers Frankfurt, it doesn’t always dominate it. The intact late 19th century streets of the Nordend neighbourhood still have an alternative, bohemian feel despite gentrification, while the Ostend areas clubs show Frankfurt’s place at the centre of Germany’s electronic music scene.
