El escondite de lo salvaje

Rare, precious Borneo is divided into three. Part-owned by Malaysia, Indonesia and the tiny kingdom of Brunei, together, they make up the third largest island in the world. Visit Malaysian Borneo with British Airways to find one of the world’s last truly wild places.

This extraordinary area is a cradle of life and over a third of the plant life is found nowhere else – including carnivorous plants, the largest flower in the world, orchids and of course the oldest rainforest trees in the world. Go like the great explorers before you trek to the rainforests, climb its mountains, and enjoy pristine beaches fringed with coral reef. You’ll meet welcoming locals – people and animals both: Borneo offers the irresistible chance to see orangutans in the wild. In the evenings, local cuisine at the night markets means you’ll eat new and exciting dishes – take advantage of the jungle’s riches and enjoy durian fruit, and milky tarak fruit. Book holidays in Borneo and have a real adventure.

Sandakan

Sandankan is a great base for seeing Borneo’s amazing animals. In the town of Sandankan itself you can visit a very prim and proper English tea house. Just an hour’s drive out of the city, people flock to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, where orangutans are reintroduced to the wild.
