We continue to fly as normal between Heathrow and Madrid.

Flights operated by our partner airline Iberia from Heathrow to Madrid will become a codeshare service - where they will show an Iberia flight number and a different British Airways flight number.

By working with our airline partners we are able to offer our customers more choice, lower fares and a greater frequency of daily flights.

What is changing? Are customers affected?

Flights operated by our partner airline Iberia from Heathrow to Madrid will be sold as a codeshare service - where they will show an Iberia flight number and a different British Airways flight number.

The flight will still go ahead as scheduled, but this requires some system changes which may affect a small number of customers who have already booked pre-paid seating and pre-paid excess baggage. We are in contact with these customers to apologise and provide refunds to those affected.

What happens to customers’ pre-paid seats or excess baggage when they had already booked and paid for it?

Customers who had already paid for services such as excess baggage are being fully refunded as it is not possible for these items to be automatically transferred across.

We have contacted our customers directly to explain this and apologise for the inconvenience.

Why are Executive Club members being affected? What are you doing for them?

A small number of our Executive Club members who had pre-selected seats are being reallocated to the same seat or equivalent.

We have contacted our customers directly to explain this and apologise for the inconvenience.

What is codesharing and why do you do it?

As well as the more than 200 direct routes that we operate around the world, we offer our customers the opportunity to book flights with our oneworld and codeshare partners through our website, ba.com.

These partnerships help to give our customers benefits including more access to great value fares and allow them to mix and match bookings on a wider network which best suit their travel needs. They also allow customers to make one booking rather than several and take advantage of co-ordinated schedules and more convenient connections.

They allow carriers to launch new routes which otherwise would not be viable if only operated by one carrier. They also ensure better competition in certain markets which again, is good for customers. Also, if customers are a member of one of the airline's frequent flyer schemes, for instance, the British Airways Executive Club, then they can earn rewards on their booking and also redeem them on a much wider range of flights.

We work closely with these airlines to ensure that they offer a similar high quality service to our own.
