En route to the Alps, make a quick stop to discover Slovenia’s pastoral heritage at Velika Planina, a mountain plateau with traditional herders’ huts. Then head to the coast to discover the salt pans near Piran, where unique landscapes meet traditional salt harvesting practices. On the way, stop off at Predjama Castle, a Medieval castle perched dramatically in a cave mouth.

Once you touch down at Ljubljana Airport, you’re only a 30-minute drive from the city centre. The cheapest way to travel is by using the airport bus, which will take you to the centre of town in about 50 minutes. Taxis can easily be found outside the airport terminal for a faster ride to your destination.

Citizens of the UK and Ireland and EU passport holders do not need a visa to visit Slovenia. If you hold a passport from a country or territory outside of these areas, you may need to apply for a visa before you travel.
