Splashes of green in the decor act as a reminder of the verdant flora outside – step out onto your private balcony or terrace and watch garden palms sway. Book a sea view room to see glittering water from your balcony or choose a beachfront room for direct access to sun, sea and sand. Premium rooms and suites offer more space – ideal for family trips.

Other facilities
Sugar Beach boasts two pools: a main pool with a kids’ section and a quiet pool. The sprawling main pool is situated between the north villas and the manor house, backing onto the beach and right next to Buddha-Bar. One of the largest pools in Mauritius, the main swimming area is scattered with palm trees, daybeds and even tiny islands. Traipse over one of the wooden bridges crossing the pool to reach a lounger beneath a banyan tree and dip your toes into the sparkling water. Alternatively, head for the quiet pool. This long, thin pool also backs onto the beach. It’s lined with comfortable daybeds and tall palm trees providing cool, shaded spots. The sea is visible from the pool – so you can glide through the tranquil water and admire the ocean beyond.
Looking for more indulgence? Make a booking at Sugar Beach Spa by Cinq Mondes. Head for the hammam and let relaxation seep into your pores as the steam evaporates busy thoughts. Savour a cup of soothing aromatic tea, as candles flicker in lanterns, causing light to glint off tile mosaics. Then sink into a spa bed and enjoy a sublime treatment like a North African massage with fragrant Argan oil. If you and your partner are looking for a romantic experience, the aromas and flowers Japanese bath ceremony for two will likely leave you both starry-eyed. Featuring rose petals and essential oils, it doesn’t get much dreamier than this. The spa also boasts a shiatsu treatment area and hairdressing salon, alongside the Aura fitness centre and martial arts area.
If you don’t want the pampering to end, make for the Beauty Bubble on the beach. Get your nails done in preparation for a special evening or glam it up just to sit by the pool – you’re on holiday, after all. You can also treat yourself to a sundowner ritual in the igloo-like pod, seeing the sky erupt in vivid oranges and delicate lilacs as you unwind, and enjoy a massage in the glow of fairy lights. The Beauty Bubble is part of the ‘Come Alive Collection’: special experiences designed to show off the magic of Mauritius. Other experiences include perfume making workshops, Mauritian tea rituals, ‘Putting on the Ritz’ lavish dinner experiences, Strictly Sugar dance classes and Crazy Croquet on the grand lawn (Panama hats strongly encouraged).
When you’re in the mood to get active, gear up for sports under the sun. Practice your serve on one of the five floodlit tennis courts or take to the azure sea and try out windsurfing or snorkelling. You could even book a catamaran cruise at an extra cost. Golfers can practise their swings in some seriously stunning settings, too – Sugar Beach guests have access to two immense courses. The first is Tamarina Golf Club: a championship course with sublime views of Rempart Mountain and glittering Tamarin Bay. The second is Ile aux Cerfs: further out, off the east coast, this iconic course sits on its own island. You can get there by free boat transfer from Pointe Maurice jetty.
There’s no shortage of entertainment for kids and teenagers at this family-friendly resort. Sun Kids Club keeps the energy high and the excitement reeling for young holiday-goers aged 2 to 11, providing creative activities to help them get stuck into their wonderous surroundings. For those aged 12 to 17, Sun Teens Club puts on a programme packed with sports and excursions. In the evenings, teens can gather around the campfire or chatter over pizza at one of the club’s get-togethers.
Dining information
Lean back on a plush sofa and listen to the rattle of cocktail shakers mingle with the rhythmic crash of waves at Buddha-Bar Beach. You’re at the edge of the water here, and the open-air design means you can dine on succulent seafood and stacks of sushi surrounded by the sea breeze. Pull up a chair on the deck to get even closer to the shoreline, and visit at sunset to see glowing rays reflected in the rippling water. Buddha-Bar Beach also loves to set the party in motion with lively music – so you can enjoy tipples and tunes with gorgeous views.
Citronella's Beach Lounge Restaurant is another beachside dining spot, serving up sumptuous Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Tuck into crisp pizza dripping in spiced meats and juicy vegetables or choose from an array of tempting tapas. Visit for a laid-back, romantic evening. Sit surrounded by white beams and pillars, looking out at a deep blue, balmy evening sky – or settle into a couch by the restaurant’s crackling firepit on the beach. Sip on a refreshing cocktail as you watch the sky turn velvet and the sea stretch into the horizon.
