Overview

Set in one of the most romantic lakes in the world, Lake Como, Villa d’Este is surrounded by a wonderful 10-hectare private park. Built in 1568 as the summer residence of Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio, it was transformed into a luxury hotel in 1873, becoming a favourite destination for the European aristocracy.

Today, Villa d’Este is a magical place thanks also to the five-star exceptional service, attention to detail, warmth of the staff and unmistakable style that have characterized the uniqueness of the hotel throughout the years.

The 152 rooms and suites, overlooking the lake or the park, are divided into two buildings: the Cardinal Building and the Queen’s Pavilion. Each is furnished with antique pieces in the Renaissance style and equipped with every modern comfort. Windows and terraces are right on the lake, with exceptional views of the mountains all around and boats quietly returning to shore in the evening.

Villa d’Este features a selection of refined restaurants and bars. You can choose the Veranda for a more formal ambience where you can enjoy world class dining. If you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere, you can opt for the Grill which offers tasty regional cuisine. During the summer months, pick the Platano as your dinner location for simple and refined food. Or savour a light lunch at the Sundeck, the hotel’s pool bar, followed by a delicious cocktail at the Bar Canova.

There's a wellness and beauty centre to enjoy complete with spa treatment rooms, a sauna, Turkish bath, indoor swimming pool and fitness facilities, along with tennis and squash courts, jogging trails, an indoor golf simulator and a putting green. A unique swimming pool is floating on the lake.

Dining information

All dining options are à la carte. Only buffet breakfast at the restaurant or continental in the room is included in the room rate.

• Veranda: The main restaurant of the hotel, located at the Cardinal Building where buffet breakfast is served. It's refined, elegant and offers a magnificent view of the gardens, the lake and the large windows accentuate the impression of being immersed in the park. During the warm season, weather permitting, the beautiful terrace is available for lunches and dinners pieds dans l'eau. Men are required to wear a jacket and tie for dinner. It is open every day during the season. Breakfast is served from 07:00 to 10:30 while lunch is scheduled from 12:15 to 14:15, dinner starts at 19:30 until 21:45.

• Grill: Located near the Queen's Pavilion, it offers an informal yet chic setting. The menu features an interesting variety of typical local dishes and Mediterranean tradition. Another enchanting location to enjoy refined cuisine, expression of the best Italian tradition, always in the name of impeccable service that distinguishes Villa d'Este. In summer, you can dine in the garden under the shade of centennial trees and overlooking the lake. It is open only for dinner from 19:00 to 23:30 from April to the end of October.

• Platano: This restaurant offers a simple and refined cuisine in an informal atmosphere. It also boasts an unmistakable view that will satisfy your desire to relax while you enjoy a classy but not demanding menu, accompanied by wines of absolute value. If you prefer the intimacy of your room you can order breakfast, lunch or dinner by calling room service. It is possible to dine inside or on the delightful terrace overlooking the lake and gardens. Open for dinner only from 19:00 to 23:00, from June to September, it is closed on Mondays.
