Babylonstoren, found just outside Franschhoek, is a place that spellbinds you with natural inspiration. It's one of the best-preserved werfs (farmyards) in the Cape Dutch tradition and the architecture is distinctive with its white-washed walls, thatched roofs and ornate gables. The garden is the lifeblood of the farm and its muse in creation was the mythical hanging gardens of Babylon. You could happily get lost in there for hours, reveling in the silence and admiring what grows so marvelously. At Babylonstoren, its about marrying the surroundings with the structures; you're never too far from the scent of the earth, the serenity of the trees or the warmth of the sun. Two restaurants, Babel and the Greenhouse serve dishes directly from what is grown in a creative way, menus are presented with colour themes to reflect the seasons.

Directions from Cape Town: Gate Times: opens at 8h00 and closes at 17h00 daily. Take the N1 towards Paarl. Take Exit 47 - Klapmuts, Stellenbosch R44 off-ramp. At the Stop sign turn right (underneath the N1 towards Stellenbosch). Go straight at the next stop sign and over the bridge. Take the next left on Franschhoek (R45). About 6 km down that road on your right you'll see Babylonstoren.
Directions from Cape Town International Airport: Gate Times: opens at 8h00 and closes at 17h00 daily. From the airport you need to take the on-ramp onto N2 East (Somerset West). Take the next major off- ramp off the N2 - the R300. You will turn left and head for Bellville. Stay on this road all the way to the N1 on-ramps. Veer Right towards Paarl.
Directions from Stellenbosch: Gate Times: opens at 8h00 and closes at 17h00 daily. Take the R44 towards Wellington. About 16 km outside of Stellenbosch you'll see a farm stall called 'The Potbelly Pantry' on your left hand side. Take the next right on Franschhoek (R45). About 6 km down that road on your right you'll see Babylonstoren.
Directions from Franschhoek: Gate Times: opens at 8h00 and closes at 17h00 daily. Take the R45 towards Paarl. At Vrede and Lust take the Klapmuts / Simondium road turnoff to your left. About 4 km down the road you'll see Babylonstoren on your left.
Directions from Paarl: Gate Times: opens at 8h00 and closes at 17h00 daily. In Paarl, head South on Main Road towards the N1 / R101. Pass under the N1 and continue on the R101, do not turn onto the N1. Turn left onto the R45 towards Franschhoek. At Vrede and Lust take the Klapmuts / Simondium road turnoff to your right. About 4 km down the road you'll see Babylonstoren on your left.
