Thailand’s capital is one of South-East Asia’s most visited cities, and it’s not hard to see why. Bangkok overflows with excitement and vibrancy, from its lively nightlife scene to its packed shopping streets. Take your pick of ornate temples covered in gold, smell sizzling noodles cooking at busy markets and listen to the chatter of tourists bartering with tuk-tuk drivers. The locals will give you a warm welcome too – you’ll quickly understand why Thailand is known as the Land of Smiles.

Fly with British Airways to Bangkok and discover a striking mix of cloud-scraping towers and lavish ancient buildings. Alongside the office buildings, luxury shopping malls and swanky hotels, there are over 400 ‘wats’, or temples, scattered across the city. Visit the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in the grounds of the Grand Palace for a double whammy of Thai opulence. After a day of exploring, you can take the weight off your feet with a relaxing massage at one of the very affordable street massage parlours. Your evenings are best spent eating and drinking your way through the iconic night markets – book your holiday to Bangkok to tuck in.

Bangkok flight FAQs

How long is a flight to Bangkok?

A flight from London Gatwick to Suvarnabhumi Airport takes approximately 11 hours and 25 minutes.

What’s the cheapest month to fly to Bangkok?

Bangkok’s dry season runs from November to April. The good weather attracts the crowds, particularly those escaping winter in the Northern Hemisphere, so it’s often better for those on a budget to visit during rainy season. Use our low fare finder to find the cheapest prices throughout the year.

Is Bangkok cheap to visit?

It's easy to keep things cheap and cheerful in Bangkok – Thailand is a favourite with backpackers for a reason. There are plenty of accommodation options, from low-cost hostels to high-end hotels. Experience the city like a local and you’ll find street food stalls and smaller restaurants offering authentic Thai meals for a fraction of the price of the tourist hotspots. For an affordable tipple with your meal, stick to beer. Wine and cocktails come at a premium in Bangkok, so save your baht for the cultural attractions, as most have an entry fee.

Is it easy to get around Bangkok?

You can take the Airport Rail Link train from the airport to Phaya Thai, a station closer to the city centre, before changing to the subway or the skytrain. The journey will take around 45 minutes. During the day, there’s also the option of an airport shuttle, which takes about an hour. Taxis are also available. You can hire a car with British Airways if you want to see more of Thailand. You’ll receive great benefits, with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support, plus you’ll collect Avios points on every rental.

Why visit Bangkok?

Bangkok is the perfect place to start your Thai adventure, whether it’s the beginning a wider tour of the country or you’re setting up camp in this iconic Asian city. The combination of tradition and modernity makes Thailand’s capital the ideal setting for an action-packed getaway, filled with delicious food, boat rides along the Chao Phraya River and backpacker-filled markets. There’s culture around every corner too, from the Museum Siam to the Erawan Shrine. Then, once you’ve had your fill of the hustle and bustle, chill out on islands like Phuket and Koh Samui, which show off Thailand’s laid-back side.

Do I need a visa for Bangkok?

Citizens of the UK and Ireland and EU passport holders may require a visa to visit Bangkok, depending on how long they stay. You can find out more about visa requirements for all the countries we fly to on our visa information page.
