Holiday in Antigua: island paradise

Wander along white sandy beaches, dip your toe into the crystal-clear ocean and soak up the tranquil atmosphere on your Antigua holidays. Venture out to sea to try a variety of water sports, hang loose beneath a cabana and tread across the island’s historical footsteps.

Make your next trip a break in the Caribbean. The best way to see the whole island is by car hire, so you can explore at your own pace and tick off any bucket list wish (you’ll need to get a driving permit when you pick up your wheels here). Spend a day relaxing at the beautiful Half Moon Bay, visit the Pillars of Hercules at English Harbour and walk through rainforests to savour beach euphoria at Rendezvous Bay. With year-round sunshine, the Antigua weather rarely falls below 20°C – no wonder it’s a top Caribbean destination. Choose from our exotic Antigua hotels and book your flights to Antigua... what are you waiting for?

You'll be spoilt for choice for places to stay in Antigua. If you're looking for peace and quiet Hermitage Bay is a great hotel choice – the beach is beautiful and there are only 25 cottages so it never feels busy. Love to relax? You’ll feel like you have your own private pool, at The Cove Suites at Blue Waters – there's one pool in every block of Suites. You don’t even have to move to get a drink, as there's a regular drinks service passing your sun lounger and enticing you with tempting sorbets and canapés. If you're looking for something a little more active Half Moon Bay beach is a great spot to base yourself, as there's lots to do in the area. Or stay at Jumby Bay Island, where you can hire a bike and cycle around its private island.

As tempting as it is to lounge about on one of the many beaches on Antigua, take a quick trip out of your hotel to visit the English Harbour area. Soak up the island's history at Nelson’s Dockyard and stop for a nice lunch overlooking the water. This is the place to be, especially during Antigua sailing week, as it’s a hub of activity with lots of visiting yachts and crews. If you're staying at The Verandah Resort & Spa by Elite take a walk up to Devil's Bridge – a picturesque natural point where the Atlantic has eroded away a soft part of limestone to create a bridge-like arch. Or if you're closer to Pineapple Beach Club by Elite don’t miss heading up to Mary’s Outhouse one day for a spot of lunch and a refreshing beer.

Take full advantage of the hotel spas in Antigua. Choose a treatment designed to reduce the effects of jet lag, so you can enjoy your holiday from the off. It's also nice to get out of the midday sun and pamper yourself with a relaxing massage. The Spa at Blue Waters is a particular favourite with Elemis treatments. Alternatively, the Blue Spa at Carlisle Bay is renowned for its luxury and exclusive treatments. However, most of the hotels on the island will have a spa facility available, just ask the hotel's concierge.

You will certainly eat well in Antigua, no matter where you're staying. Carmichael’s at Sugar Ridge is always a popular choice, both for its great reputation for food and its incredible views. It is located at the top of the ridge, overlooking the resort. The East at Carlisle Bay is also a great choice, for its great mix of Asian dishes including Thai, sushi & sashimi.

Spending a Sunday evening at Shirley Heights has become quite a tradition on the island. Here, you can look forward to enjoying a barbecue with locals and visitors alike, listening to local bands playing. This is also the perfect place to watch the sun go down and if you're lucky, catch the often talked about 'green flash'. If you can't make 'Jump up', they have another barbecue night on a Thursday too, which is often a bit quieter.
