Enthralling Edinburgh

Edinburgh is begging to be explored. With a crumbling castle perched high above the city, overlooking the Old Town’s narrow closes and wynds, the wider streets lined with Georgian tenements of the New Town, and the coastline to the north, there are treasures to be found wherever you go in the capital.

In summer, head to the Meadows, a gorgeous green space ideal for enjoying a picnic or a picture-perfect stroll. Or, head to the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh to see the variety of exotic plant species from around the world.

For skyline views, a walk up the extinct volcano Arthur’s Seat is a fabulous way to introduce yourself to the city. The hill sits at 251 m above sea level, so the views are well worth the climb. There are plenty of other places to walk on a bright spring day, including the Water of Leith and the Pentland hills.

Edinburgh’s summer festivals are a real cultural highlight of the year. The month of August is a time when the capital truly transforms into ‘Festival City’, so make sure you soak up the atmosphere of the Royal Mile whilst the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is in full swing and catch an exciting show or two. Don’t miss the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, an unforgettable spectacle which unfolds every year on the castle esplanade.

Gallivanting in Glasgow

Venture to Scotland’s biggest city – full of friendly faces and a blend of history, culture and creativity.

First of all, the city is a cultural hotspot. In Glasgow, you can stumble across masterpieces of art without stepping foot inside an art gallery. With murals laced across the city, you’ll find street art adorning walls in unexpected nooks and crannies. Take it all in along the Glasgow City Mural Trail.

Whether its beer or coffee you’re looking for, Glasgow’s East End is the place for you. Head to Tennent’s Wellpark Brewery for a tour of the brewery which makes Scotland’s favourite pint, or to the local favourite Dear Green Coffee Roasters for a delicious brew.

Glasgow's public spaces are a pleasure to explore during the long summer days. In Kelvingrove Park, stroll along walking trails and admire statues dotted throughout the park, and look out for the West End’s impressive gothic University of Glasgow buildings.

Don’t miss exciting music festivals this summer as the Glasgow Jazz Festival takes place from 19 – 23 June 2019 across the city. Or, if bagpipe music is more your thing, Piping Live! celebrates the traditional sounds of the pipes with a variety of performances from 10 – 18 August 2019.

It’s one of the UK’s most vegan friendly cities too, with lots of vegan and veggie friendly pubs, restaurants and cafés to choose from. Head to the 78, Mono or Stereo and see what meat-free delights there are to try.

Scotland holidays - your way

Fly-drive holidays in Scotland

Hire a car from Edinburgh and explore Dumfries and Galloway’s sandy coves, or take the Fife Coastal Route, which runs 85 miles (136 km) through picturesque villages of East Neuk, with their distinctive red pantiled roofs, right up to the historic town of St Andrews - the Home of Golf and the seat of Scotland's oldest university. From Glasgow take a leisurely drive around Loch Lomond and discover the beautiful rural countryside. Or from Aberdeen follow the 118 mile (189 km) Highland Tourist Route to Inverness.

Romantic getaways in Scotland

Take your loved one's hand to climb Edinburgh’s extinct volcano Arthur’s Seat for sunset city views. It’s easy to find romantic solitude in the remote Orkney Islands, where you can explore the lonely Neolithic landmarks. In noble, granite-clad Aberdeen, take a romantic stroll alongside the beach Esplanade, then dine on haute cuisine along the Castle Trail.

Family holidays in Scotland

Kids will love the hands-on exhibits at Glasgow Science Centre, its titanium curves gleaming on the banks of the Clyde. Edinburgh’s summer festivals are packed with family entertainment, from street theatre on the medieval cobbles, to the pipers and drummers at the Military Tattoo. Try and spot the chirruping dolphins and basking seals off Aberdeen’s coast.

Golf holidays in Scotland

The modern game is attributed to Scotland, and of course the legendary St. Andrews. Our flights to Edinburgh will have you within driving distance (no pun intended) from the historic home of golf. For those more adventurous, the Highlands offer some fantastic golf amidst glorious lochs and sublime mountains.
