Dual Inventory Fares create cabin upgrade options for customers. They are offered in World Traveller Plus, Club World and First, as well as equivalent cabins on partner airlines American Airlines, Finnair and Iberia (may vary by journey group)
Dual Inventory Fares are available on most of the British Airways longhaul network and our Atlantic Joint Business routes from UK and Europe to/from the USA, Canada, Caribbean and Mexico.
Availablility for Dual Inventory Fares comes from 2 different inventory classes using a fare from the lower cabin which books into the higher cabin.
e.g. an O class fare (World Traveller/Economy) booking into T class for AY/BA/IB and P for AA (World Traveller Plus/Premium Economy).
We calculate the fare by taking the lowest available inventory in both cabins and adding a specified trade up amount, which varies based on availability, route and cabins.
The fare basis code is made up of the higher cabin booking class + the fare basis code from the lower cabin booking class, with the character “F” at the end. e.g.
At present, American Airlines doesn't add the letter “F” at the end of the fare basis. Additionally, when quoting Business or First cabin DIF fares, the lower class it builds on will also be the first letter of the fare basis. e.g.
Dual Inventory Fares vary by destination and season and are constructed by adding a specified amount to the lower cabin fare.
The lower cabin fare needs to meet a minimum threshold to enable a DIF construction, so some of the cheaper lower cabin fares will not produce Dual Inventory Fares.
To obtain a Dual Inventory Fare, you will need to request a fare quote for the booking class of travel (World Traveller Plus, Club World or First) as per the example above.
To retrieve these fares in the GDS, you must use private entries, as they are filed as private Seat Only and Tour Operator fares.
The fare you are quoted may change if you don't ticket the booking immediately.
When repricing Dual Inventory Fares, the lowest applicable trade-up fare can be used.
You do not need to default to the T/P class annual fare if a lower trade up fare is available (subject to any Apex/Min stay requirements).
Where a customer requests a change to their booking, the following applies:
Where possible, always use the automated systems to requote the fare.
When there is a change of travel date and availability in the lower cabin is different, the fare will change even though T class is being booked.
There may also be seasonality changes.
In addition to this, any penalty changes will have to be collected. In this case, GBP150.00.
