Causing A Scene
For those who enjoy a tantalising combination of black comedy and drama, look no further than Feud, a new series that explores the real life hostility between golden era Hollywood actresses Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. The pair famously fought over acting roles, romantic partners and their status in the industry. However, they had not acted together until director Robert Aldrich cast them as two sisters in suspense thriller What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?, which is where their rivalry reached boiling point. Feud explores the tumultuous making of this film, and boasts it’s own all-star cast with Jessica Lange as Crawford and Susan Sarandon in the role of Davis. “It tells a story of Hollywood, but that is just a microcosm of what goes on everywhere,” explains Lange. “What interested me the most was the sexism that exists but also, even more so, the ageism. What happens to a woman when she gets to be a certain age, and how devastating that is”. Expect lashings of side-eye, sour remarks and behind-the-scenes bullying in this sensational drama from the writer of American Horror Story.
