Take a trip to the Lone Star State

Take a trip to the Lone Star State.

Texas is known around the world as a state fiercely proud of their heritage and laid-back way of life. Not to be outshone by the USA’s coastal areas, there are two definite sides to this welcoming state – old versus new.

The second biggest state after Alaska, Texas is vast, with seven major areas covering 269,000-square miles of diverse terrain. Within this space you will find beaches along the Gulf Coast, cattle-grazing plains as far as the eye can see, and lakes, forests and mountainous regions galore. The plains are home to the cowboy – raising cattle is a major way of life. Cowboy boots and Stetson hats are widely worn and rodeo is still a favourite pastime. Yet Houston and Dallas are populous metropolises that have all the glitz and glamour of East coast cities. Liberal Austin is a haven for musicians and filmmakers, also famous as a tech capital. And San Antonio’s Spanish-Mexican influence offers yet another side. Texas has everything to offer, it is both natural and industrial, and old-world and high-tech at once. In one day you can travel from a guest ranch corralling cattle to a major city promising the cutting edge technology of the space programme. Little wonder Texans are proud of this wonderful state.

Dallas - Fort Worth
Dallas.

Fly into Dallas, a glittering metropolis where shopping is top of the agenda. Lose yourself in the original Neiman Marcus store or peruse the best cowboy clothing in town at Wild Bill’s. Dallas’s unique museums and memorials, upscale dining and nightlife also put the city on the map. Then move on to Fort Worth, a living museum of the Wild West, where mini-cattle drives and rodeos still draw in the crowds. Head to Billy Bob’s for live country music. Or to Sundance Square for plenty of dining and drinking options.
