With almost as many staff as there are rooms, Berlin-set Gorki Apartments are designed to ensure that everything is just-so: Tom Dixon lights, RPL Parfums room spray, Wood Wood-designed uniforms… It’s a sophisticate’s fantasy, where rooms are expensively styled with a whimsical, roughed-up charm – an exposed brick wall here, a hand-carved table there. Gorki may be exclusive but it’s also well-placed for action – situated in the Berlin-Mitte, you’re within strolling distance of the coolest shops, bars and restaurants (and trust us, Gorki’s concierge is on first-name terms with them all).

In the know

Also need to know:

Categorki 3 rooms (at the back of the building) are suitable for guests with mobility issues, but the hotel’s common areas aren’t accessible to wheelchair users. Gorki is about as hygge as you’ll get outside Scandinavia itself: from the staff uniforms (designed by Danish fashion giant Wood Wood) to the Finnish-made Pelago bikes available to hire, it’s straight out of a Nordic drama – but without the murder mystery. The whole hotel is scented with Copenhagen-based RPL Parfums’ heady signature fragrance (don’t forget to buy a bottle from reception).

Packing tips:

Imagine yourself as a bohemian artist, living it up in central Berlin with only your paintbrushes and tortured soul for company: go for black polo necks, sunglasses and a trendy haircut.

Dress code:

Silky PJs and cosy cashmere for lounging around in your room. (Burgers in bed? Don’t mind if we do…)

Mr and Mrs Smith reviews

Every hotel featured is visited personally by members of our team, given the Smith seal of approval, and then anonymously reviewed. As soon as our reviewers have returned from this boutique, apartment-style hotel in the Mitte and unpacked their Scandi-designed trinkets and Dr Bronner’s soaps, a full account of their trendsetting city break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside the Gorki Apartments in Berlin…

For those of us that don’t have a super-hip, Scandi-design magpie friend living in central Berlin, Gorki Apartments are the next best thing. Like a luxurious private house, Gorki pays as much attention to its guests as it does to its meticulously curated, interiors magazine-worthy decor. When you check in, you’ll get an hour-long chat with one of the friendly, discreet staff, who’ll ask you what you want from your stay, what you’d like to see, what foods you favour, and so on. You’ll be taken up winding, outdoor staircases (spot the pot plants and trailing vines, all installed by trendy garden designers Strauchpoeten) to an apartment-style suite – your exceedingly comfortable home for as long as you choose to make it so. Gorki caters to long-term guests as well as weekenders: there are stainless steel letterboxes in reception if you’re here for a long time as well as a good time, and the fridge-filling service is an excellent resource for lazy shoppers. Planning something a little more spezial? Flowers, champagne and a selection of wine can be installed in your room, no problem. You’re even taken care of when you go: the concierge will hand you a freshly-brewed coffee in a biodegradable cup on check-out to perk you up on the way home.

There’s no bar or restaurant on site, but Gorki guests benefit from the insider knowledge of the hip staff: they have the best connections with local restaurants, from new openings to well-loved institutions. If you can’t bear to leave your room (and honestly, when they’re this gorgeous, we wouldn’t blame you), use Deliveroo to order food straight to your door, or take advantage of the hotel’s fridge-filling service to create your own in-room feasts.

Top Table:

Both Penthouses have access to the hottest ticket in Berlin: a private, rooftop dining terrace, for alfresco meals under the stars.

Last Orders:

Whenever hunger strikes…

Hotel Bar:

Gorki doesn't have a bar, but the hotel can organise for wine to be sent up to your room. If you fancy picking something out yourself, Weinerei on nearby Veteranenstraße (a five-minute walk frok Gorki) has a wide selection of European and international bottles.
