Overview

Riad Kaiss is a stunning, traditional Moroccan townhouse, located on a quiet side street, in the heart of Marrakech. This boutique hotel offers nine richly decorated rooms, a lovely, shaded rooftop pool, a traditional hammam providing massages and treatments and a charming courtyard garden, perfect for a cool drink of an evening.

The location of this beautifully restored riad couldn’t be better for exploring Morocco. A great place to start is the UNESCO world heritage site of Djemaa El Fna, just steps away from the hotel. This bustling square is an assault on your senses, wherever you look. During the day there are street entertainers, food markets and mountain traders – be sure to stop by one of the rooftop cafes for a freshly squeezed orange juice, away from the Moroccan heat. By night, the square takes on a completely different complexion when restaurants fire up their grills, musicians play and locals take a stroll. Other local places of interest include Bahia Palace and El Badi Palace, both around 350 metres from the hotel while the Saadien’s Tombs are under a mile away. Marrakech Menara Airport is only four miles from the riad.

Each colourful room in the riad is uniquely decorated, with every wall, ceiling and floor furnished in rich Moroccan fabrics, tiles, mirrors and lanterns. All rooms have air-conditioning, high quality bed linens, and the en-suite bathroom facilities include a hairdryer and free toiletries. Views from the rooms are either of the patio or the garden.

There’s a small but perfectly size rooftop pool which is surrounded by comfortable loungers and shaded by material canopies. It’s the perfect place to head to for a dip, away from the Moroccan heat. Under domed ceilings and enclosed in cooling marble is the full-service spa which offers a wide range of treatments. A must is the traditional hammam and gommage, which is a cleansing and highly relaxing experience. Follow it with a massage where therapists use a range of massage and bath products based on the powerfully anti-oxidant Argan oil, developed by the hotel. Additional treatments include facials, manicures and pedicures, traditional henna tattoos and waxing.

Dining information

The hotel offers several dining options including private dining in the romantic dining room, several cosy corners around the hotel, the pretty courtyard, or even at the hotel’s sister property, Dar Anika. Almost everything served is made from scratch including delicious jams, breads, pastries, yoghurts, while the hotel’s honey is sourced from Berber mountain villages. A professional chef, two dadas (traditional female cooks), and a pastry chef offer a range of traditional Moroccan dishes including the hotel’s very special (and guest favourite) lamb shoulder, the chef’s signature dish.
