Overview

Situated in the small town of Mellieha, the Solana Hotel and Spa is close to Malta’s largest Blue Flag beach. The hotel offers a great base for exploring the Maltese islands, with its modern accommodation, varied dining options and four fabulous pools – including two on the hotel's panoramic rooftop. Plus, there’s a fitness centre and a calming spa, complete with an indoor heated pool.

Solana Hotel and Spa lies in the centre of Mellieha town, just over a mile from Malta’s largest sandy beach, Ghadira Bay. There are restaurants and shops in the immediate vicinity, and the historical chapel of Our Lady of the Grotto is just 350 metres away. For family fun, take a two-mile trip to Popeye Village theme park, or head to the Cirkewwa Ferry Terminal (less than four miles from the hotel) to visit the beautiful sister islands of Gozo and Comino. Valletta, Malta’s capital, and Malta International Airport are both about 14 miles away.

The accommodation comprises a selection of rooms, suites and studios. Other facilities

The Solana Hotel and Spa offers a panoramic rooftop pool and sun deck. Here you can watch sunsets over Mellieha and admire stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and neighbouring islands. You’ll want to relax in the shaded lounge area and order drinks from the rooftop bar in the warmer months.

In addition to the two rooftop pools and garden pool, you will find an indoor pool (heated in the colder months) in the spa area. Comfortable loungers encircle this pool, and there’s a star light ceiling, which helps create a calming ambience. Nataraya Spa tempts guests with a menu of therapeutic treatments and boasts a chromotherapy hydro bath, harmonious treatment rooms, a serene lounge and relaxation gardens. In this area, you’ll also find a small fitness centre with a variety of exercise machines and free weights.

The hotel's 24-hour front desk can assist you with booking local excursions and arranging airport transfers or car hire services (all entail a supplementary charge).

Dining information

The hotel has three inviting restaurants and two bars. Bellini Restaurant is a buffet-style venue with indoor seating and an outdoor terrace. They serve full continental and English breakfasts in the morning and themed dinners made with local ingredients during the evening, with free flowing drinks (beer, wine, soft drinks, juices, mineral water and hot beverages) included with all meals.

The Prickly Pear is a well-lit restaurant, tastefully decorated with Maltese patterned tiles and plush furnishings. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the a la carte dishes are typically inspired by local or Mediterranean cuisine and can be paired with a selection of local craft beers, wines or cocktails. There’s also Tosca Restaurant which opens in the evenings. This restaurant offers an outdoor dining veranda and a varied Mediterranean menu which includes tasty antipasti, fresh salads, handmade pastas, pizzas and seafood specialities.

The Lobby Bar serves light refreshments and hot drinks throughout the day, and pre-dinner cocktails during the evenings. In the warmer seasons, you can also order drinks and snacks at the Top Deck bar, adjacent to the rooftop pool.
