Overview

Set overlooking the crystalline waters of the Maldives’ Baa Atoll, the Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu is a tranquil island resort that largely appeals to couples and solo travellers. You’ll find long stretches of white beach, a luxury spa and wellness centre, a choice of restaurants and an array of water sports and leisure facilities on the island. During your stay, you can retire to your beach or overwater villa, and book a wealth of memorable experiences, from private sandbank dinners to guided snorkelling trips with a resident marine biologist.

Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu sits on a private island in the south of the Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve that’s teeming with coral reefs and over 1000 aquatic species. Depending on the season, you can also spot sea turtles, manta rays and whale sharks in the surrounding dive sites, most 20 minutes away by boat. You can also snorkel around the offshore coral reef or book a range of excursions, such as private island trips or enjoy scenic sunset cruises, in resort for an additional charge. The resort is around a 30-minute seaplane journey from Male International Airport.

The 98 thatch-roofed villas are nestled in the tropical landscape, just back from the beach, or they hover above the lagoon on stilts. Rooms are decorated in a simple Maldivian style with terracotta floor tiles, whitewashed walls and wood or wicker furnishings − and most rooms feature an open-air bathroom. Deluxe Villas include a private plunge pool, while Beach Villas offer a spacious private garden area with views across the Indian Ocean. If you prefer to stay above the water, choose a Lagoon Villa with a private sundeck, plunge pool and direct access to the lagoon.

Other facilities

This resort is a haven for water sports enthusiasts. For a start, the water sports centre offers a comprehensive range of activities including snorkelling, kayaking and paddleboarding – in addition to motorised water sports such as, jet skiing, water skiing, fly boarding and parasailing. The PADI-certified dive centre provides guided dive experiences for beginners and seasoned pros, and you can snorkel around the colourful reefs with a marine educator to learn about different underwater species and help to plant coral in the island’s lagoon.

Within the leafy gardens, you’ll find an inviting spa and wellness centre, complete with a fully equipped gym and yoga pavilion. The Coco Spa houses a Jacuzzi pool and five treatment rooms, where you can enjoy Indonesian, Thai and Ayurvedic-inspired treatments that incorporate natural, plant-based ingredients (for an additional charge). Their signature ‘Spice Bath’ ritual is designed to remove impurities from the skin, while the ‘Journey to the Maldives’ treatment aims to relieve deep muscle tension. The Edible Spa Menu features treatments using entirely edible ingredients such as mangoes, coconuts and cocoa powder, for a truly unique experience.

Other on-site facilities include a gift shop and separate tennis, volleyball, and badminton courts. You can also book a range of special experiences, including sunset dhoni boat cruises, local island excursions and movie screenings under the stars.

Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu demonstrates their commitment to sustainable practices with their on-site water production plant, recycling centre and a flourishing herb garden. Plastic bags and bottles are banned on the island, and the resort’s dedicated marine biologists help protect and rehabilitate endangered sea turtles.
