Nairobi airport is just 25 minutes from the city centre but during peak traffic the drive can take more than an hour. The city’s roads are badly congested but with a lot of infrastructure development taking place – including new roads and highways – it’s hoped the situation will improve. Until then, do as the locals do and use a matatu (14-seater minibus) or shuttle (6-seater car), though these can be hair-raising. For a less stressful (but more expensive option) hire a car and a driver. It’s best to take a registered taxi from the airport, though a rail link is on the cards.
