Don’t make travelling tiring. Arrive in Tampa feeling refreshed with our long-haul travel tips.

  1. Staying hydrated is important when you fly. On-board air conditioning dries out the air on the plane and can leave you thirsty. Drink plenty of water during your journey.
  2. Get a good night’s sleep before you fly, avoiding caffeine and alcohol, which both disturb your sleep. On the flight, limit your consumption of both caffeine and alcohol to ensure you get the best rest.
  3. Tampa is in the Eastern Time Zone, four hours behind GMT. Beat jet lag by living ‘in’ your new time zone as soon as you can. For expert advice from our sleep expert, use our jet lag advisor.

When to tip

It’s important to tip in the US, not only in restaurants, but also in bars, hotels, taxis, and on the golfing green. At restaurants, expect to tip 15-20%.

Getting around

It’s easy to drive Florida’s Gulf Coast. The I-75 is the main motorway joining Tampa to Miami. For a more scenic route between the two, take the Tamiami Trail through the Everglades.

Free attractions

Swap spending dollars for finding sand dollars along some of Florida’s prettiest bays. You can’t put a price on the Gulf Coast’s lovely white sand. Try Longboat Key in Sarasota or massive Clearwater Beach.
