Picturesque Parga is nestled on Greece’s northern coast, backed by majestic peaks decorated with cypress trees and crowned by a Venetian castle. Uncover the understated charm that radiates beyond the soaring Epirus Mountains down to the romantic pastel-coloured harbour.

Parga’s turquoise bay and cliff-backed beaches give off Greek Island vibes, while the adventures of the mainland await. Wade through the crystal-clear water of the legendary Acheron River, as it navigates the rugged canyon. If you’re feeling brave, enjoy an invigorating dip in one of the deeper pools – it is cold, even in the summer months. Venture further to seek out the tranquillity and freedom of the soaring Epirus Mountains, dotted with monasteries, olive groves and timeless villages. Drive to the beautiful island of Lefkada for spectacular sandy beaches, backed by wild rugged cliffs and plenty of opportunity for water sports. When the sun sets, streets laced with jasmine will lead you to tavernas serving delicious moussaka. Book your flights to Preveza and begin your Greek adventure.

Make the most of your Parga holiday

What are the best things to do in Parga?

1. Relax at Krioneri Beach – a secluded pebbled bay, ideal for swimming and snorkelling. A short walk up the hill will take you to the quaint, white-washed church of Agia Eleni. If you’re feeling adventurous, swim over to the small neighbouring island of Panagia.

2. Soak up the sea views at The Venetian Castle of Parga. This 11th Century castle is considered an important landmark and one of the best things to do in Parga. The castle sits on the medieval hilltop of the Epirus region, where you can roam the stone trails lined with cypress trees, which overlook the Ionian Sea – don’t miss the secret pathway.

3. Visit the magical Meteora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, consisting of a series of monasteries with first-class views across the Pindos Mountains.

4. Explore The Watermill Museum. The collection houses a selection of trinkets including bygone folklore clothes. There’s also a spectacular waterfall and Mylos café at the top of the hill, where you can rest and take in the scenery. Once you’ve recharged, meander through the olive groves and stumble upon Valtos Beach.

5. Spend a day at Paragaea Old Olive Oil Factory, where you can sip on the liquid of the Gods – a divine fruity oil made from 15th Century olive trees. You’ll be taken on a fascinating journey through the olive groves to discover how the olive oil is produced.

Epirus is the most mountainous north western region of Greece, set against brilliant blue skies. South from Ioannina lies the Ancient Dodona – a crumbling stone temple dedicated to the Greek God, Zeus. Close by is the towering amphitheatre, Roman Odeon of Nicopolis. Its semi-circular rows of tiered seating were originally used for lectures and musical contests during the Nea Aktia, plus religious games to honour Apollo.

Take a boat trip to the Sivota Island’s Blue Lagoon, which is located just opposite the island of Corfu, to explore the mysterious, uninhabited coves and glorious sun-soaked beaches. Further afield, in the heart of the Pindus Mountain range, lies the idyllic region of Zagori. Journey across the iconic stone arch bridges, pausing to peer at Vikos Gorge – the second deepest gorge in the world, which lies on the verdant slopes of Mount Tymfi. You’re also within close reach of the impressive archaeological UNESCO monasteries of Meteora. Inside you’ll find charming chapels, decorative frescoes and illuminated manuscripts.
