Exciting things to do in Las Vegas

Sitting out in the Nevada desert, Las Vegas was created as a resort to help soldiers of a nearby camp relax. Jump forward sixty years and you have one of the biggest cities dedicated to entertainment and gaming in the world.

Every moment in Vegas is sure to be a memorable one, with so much going on it’s impossible to have a quiet time. Stroll down The Strip, take in the shark reef at Mandalay Bay, or admire the miniaturised versions of famous places around the world. You can enjoy nightly live shows or 24-hour gaming at the hundreds of casinos. Watch a Cirque de Soleil masterpiece at the Bellagio, or get a shopping fix at one of the many malls. There are so many things to do in Las Vegas it will be hard to fit it all in.

Casinos in Las vegas.

Casinos galore

The casinos of Las Vegas are among the biggest and best in the world. Ranging from high-roller, super-luxurious resorts to fun, quirky and affordable places with a lot of atmosphere. Luxury casinos have an air of exclusivity, with vibrant gaming areas and risqué burlesque entertainment. Lose track of time at the Paris Las Vegas, where the ceiling is always a glorious shade of sunshine blue. Alternatively, play vintage coin-operated slot machines in The D Hotel’s casino.

Golf in Las Vegas.

Golf in Sin City

Golf in Las Vegas is perfect due to the year-round sunny weather. There is always somewhere to practice your drive. Courses range in difficulty, from pitch and putt to championship-level play, so there is something for beginners or more adept players. Spend some time on lush fairways, keeping the ball out of water hazards and admire the celebrity-designed courses. Get into your swing in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas luxury style.

Las Vegas in luxury style

Luxury in Sin City really means luxury, with some of the best hotels, spas and restaurants in the world on your doorstep. Larger than life, Vegas seems perfect for an extravagant break. Signature restaurants by celebrity chefs are in abundance at the many exclusive hotels, and high-limit gaming is smiled upon in the bigger casinos. You will find unparalleled service everywhere you go and world-class entertainment from huge stars.

Las vegas nightlife.

Party all night in Vegas

Vegas wouldn’t be the same without its incredible nightlife. From burlesque showgirls to zombie magic acts, there is an eclectic atmosphere throughout the city. Add the amazing pool parties, 24-hour bars, thumping nightclubs and cocktail hangouts, and you are sure to have a great time. Make sure to check out the magnificent split-level Chandelier Bar at The Cosmopolitan, or the Downtown Cocktail Room – push a discreet door to enter – a stylish speakeasy in Downtown.

Las Vegas shopping.

Superb shopping in Vegas

Las Vegas is home to fantastic shops, stalls and malls with plenty of opportunities to shop ‘til you drop. Luxury avenues, like the Via Bellagio, offer the upscale boutiques of Chanel, Gucci and Dior. Miracle Mile at Planet Hollywood boasts 170 stores and 15 restaurants, so it’s easy to lose a whole day here. But the highlight has to be the Grand Canal at The Venetian, where singing Gondoliers serenade shoppers.

Food culture of las Vegas.

Food culture of Las Vegas

Las Vegas brags some of the best restaurants in the USA, as more and more celebrity chefs are setting up. Gordon Ramsey’s brilliant BurGR at Planet Hollywood serves up the perfect burger. Or, uprooted from its home New York, the Carnegie Deli at The Mirage is home to the overstuffed pastrami sandwich. A good tip is to try the Caesar’s 24-hour buffet pass, so you can sample nine different hotel buffets.

Ten late night eateries in Las Vegas

Time can become a little abstract in Las Vegas. No clocks and 24-hour gaming can leave you feeling dazed and out of synch. Luckily for you, many restaurants are open-all-hours – perfect for after party nibbles. Our list of ten favourites serve food late into the night, and perhaps another drink or two.

collapsedshowThe Crown & Anchor
The Crown & Anchor.

Best for: Those who fancy an all-night Full-English breakfast.

A Las Vegas take on the British pub, whilst a bit cheesy, it does serve great British food all day and night. On a Sunday they serve a roast beef or lamb dinner until 10pm, with all the trimmings. For those fans of rugby and football who can’t miss a game, they show all games all through the night. So you can get a nice ale and a ploughman’s lunch whilst watching the Premier league on the box, all at five in the morning.

collapsedshowGrand Lux Café at the Palazzo
The Grand Lux Café.

Best for: Those looking for a European-style bite late at night.

This 24-hour café is reminiscent of the grand cafés of Europe. Think of the trattorias of Rome, chic Parisian bistros and opulent Viennese cafés and you will be pleasantly surprised. All of these styles and details encapsulate the heart of European café culture, and you will find them all, albeit with an American twist. A luxurious break away from Vegas with the fantastic service, superb globe-spanning food and generous portions you expect in an all-American restaurant.

collapsedshowTAP Sports Bar
TAP Sports Bar.

Best for: Sports fans on the lookout for some great burgers.

Sports, beers and burgers are what’s on offer at this boisterous bar, which is open until 2am at the weekend. They offer all the usual sports bar options like chicken wings, cheese steak sliders and chili fries. But they also have a signature range, like South Side Street Dogs and Butchers Block Burgers to go alongside the great selection of craft beers. Add to this 60 screens showing sports galore and hundreds of items of memorabilia of your favourite legends and you are in for a fun night out.

collapsedshowHash House a Go Go
Hash House a Go Go.

Best for: Those insatiably hungry after a big night drinking.

The brilliantly-named Hash House a Go Go is perfect for after-drinks munchies, as it is open all night. The menu is huge, with lots of options of meat or veggie, and the portion sizes are infamous. Be ready to take some home with you, or risk not being able to move very quickly. In fact, sharing is probably the best option. Great service, farm-fresh food and old recipes made new make this hash house one for the night owls.

Best for: Fans of cabaret dining experiences with a twist.

This interesting concept bar-restaurant-club (with a bit of theatre mixed in) at The Cosmopolitan has tapped into something not before seen in Las Vegas. Offbeat, chaotic and wildly original consisting of three rooms. The Library hosts the restaurant – a gourmet feast of classic and modern dishes. The Study is a brilliant cocktail bar with an awe-inspiring selection of spirits from all over the world. And finally, the Music room is where the magic happens. Great bands, burlesque and cabaret acts, and much more will provide a night to remember.

Best for: Those hungry for succulent Spanish tapas after the fiesta.

Located on Paradise Road, this great restaurant and bar provides a wonderful take on a traditional Spanish taberna. The food and service are amazing, all amidst dark recesses reminiscent of a small family restaurant in Madrid. They serve classic dishes, such as boquerones, chorizo and patatas bravas alongside delicious sangria. Open until 2am, not an especially late night, but definitely worth taking the time to visit. The late-night happy hour is popular with locals and is a great time to go.

collapsedshowPeppermill Fireside Lounge
Peppermill Fireside Lounge.

Best for: Romantic trysts with that someone special late at night.

A true Las Vegas icon, open 24-hours serving huge cocktails and even bigger steaks, since 1972. Imagine a cross between Liberace’s lounge and a scene from the film Casino (which was actually filmed here) and you’ll have a feel for the décor. It has been described as the brightest dark room in Vegas, and you will find a lot of couples escaping the glitz of the Strip. The fire-pit in the middle of the room is a bizarre addition, as it is always on – even in high summer.

collapsedshowAburiya RAKU Grill
Aburiya RAKU Grill.

Best for: Admirers of delicious food in intimate surroundings.

Literally translated as ‘charcoal grill house enjoyment’, you will definitely enjoy everything about Aburiya RAKU. In the heart of Las Vegas’ Chinatown this Japanese bar and grill is a must-visit late at night. Open until 3am, the food will not vary in quality, and is simply superb. Serving both raw and grilled fish, veggies and meat, the selection on offer is astonishing. They even serve the hallowed Kobe beef, which comes highly recommended. If you want superior food after hours, then this is for you – your taste buds are in for lesson in flavour.

collapsedshowEl Dorado Cantina
El Dorado Cantina

Best for: Aficionados of all-night Mexican food (and tequila).

El Dorado Cantina is named after the fabled city of gold, and with this much quality they might have found it. This upmarket bar and restaurant oozes comfort and sophistication, with plenty on their impressive menu. El Dorado prides itself on the highest quality non-GMO products, with a passion for unique menus. They also have amazing cocktails and over 100 fine tequilas, so this is place to carry on into the small hours. Try the wonderful Chapulines, which are sautéed grasshoppers in garlic, lime and chilli – a tale to tell everyone at home.

collapsedshowSecret Pizza at The Cosmopolitan
Secret Pizza at The Cosmopolitan.

Best for: Pizza lovers who like a bit of covert action.

This is a great idea from the people at The Cosmopolitan, an unmarked and hidden pizza shop in the middle of their hotel. It almost feels like it shouldn’t be there tucked away on a third floor corridor. But it does do a great slice until 5am. Choose from classic New York-style pizza – cheese, pepperoni and vegetarian options by the slice or order a whole pizza. They sell a few beers too, so this is an ideal place to stop off on the way home. Grab a slice or two, a beer and then head back to your room.
