City breaks in Hamburg
Okay, it’s not as pretty as Prague or stylish as Stockholm. But Hamburg is a top spot for a slightly unorthodox weekend break. It’s got an elegant waterfront and hotels to match.
Hamburg city breaks offer a metropolitan mix of art, culture, food and shopping in the ‘Mo’ (Monckebergstrasse), the city’s main shopping district, or the historic - and frenetic – Sunday fish market. It is affluent – but in areas such as St Pauli, and Schanzenviertel in particular, there’s good value shopping and eating. The Reeperbahn, where the Beatles played, is an ordinary shopping street by day, but transforms by night. Not for the prudish or the fainthearted.
