What to do in Dubai

Renowned for being an affluent and superlative-filled destination, Dubai has an incredible number of things to do. From adventure holidays in the desert to relaxing on the beach or having a luxury Friday brunch – what will you choose?

Shopping is high on the agenda, with traditional souqs and massive ‘supermalls’ competing for attention. Lots of hotels have signature shops, and the malls range from high street fashion to luxury couture. Indulge in spa days, pampering yourself amid five star surroundings, or play a round of golf on the dreamscape courses available. The food culture is fantastic, head for bottomless brunch with friends on Friday, when Dubai’s weekend starts. Add to this boats, theme parks, even an indoor ski slope – your entertainment is guaranteed on holidays in Dubai.

Sumptuous spas.

Sumptuous spas

Visit the Talise Ottoman spa and hammam in the palatial Jumeriah Zabeel Saray on the Palm, away from the bustle of the city. Alternatively, the Guerlain Spa’s private treatment suites of the One&Only The Palm offer an intimate and luxury experience. And the Jumeirah Dar Al Masyaf-Madinat has 26 treatment rooms which has both modern bespoke therapies and traditional eastern remedies to what ails you.

Beautiful beaches.

Beautiful beaches

The Arabian Gulf maintains almost year-round sunshine, making it a perfect destination for lazing on the beach. The shores of the Jumeriah Palm offer beautiful white sand beaches, where diving and snorkelling are a must. The spectacular Atlantis The Palm is fun for all the family, with a stunning beach and the Aquaventure Waterpark. Or relax on the glorious Jumeriah Beach, sipping ice-cold drinks from the hotel bars.

Eating out in Dubai.

Eating out in Dubai

Dubai is a melting pot of cultures, and this is reflected in the cuisine – find signature restaurants in the luxury hotels, or try the home-made Indian dhal and chapatti stalls. Food has its own culture here, and a good way to start is to join in on Friday brunch, which is a hit with the international crowd. And don’t miss out on a ‘shawarma’ kebab, served in many street cafés across the city.

Limitless shopping.

Limitless shopping

With over 1200 shops to choose from, the Dubai Mall is the biggest in the world, with many attractions other than retail therapy. The smaller Mall of the Emirates is a haven for high-end fashion lovers with many designer stores. And the souqs of Deira give a more traditional shopping experience, especially the gold and spice souqs. Don’t miss a trip down Al Fahidi Street if you are shopping for electronics.

Dubai attractions

Dubai’s amazing attractions

Visit the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, whose 124th floor viewing platform provides adventurous travellers the view of a lifetime. In the evening, head to Dubai Fountain, which dances to music outside the massive Dubai Mall. Don’t miss out on theme parks like Wild Wadi and the new IMG Worlds of Adventure – ideal for that family holiday.

Traditional life.

Traditional life

Dubai may be a glittering, modern metropolis but it is surrounded by a spectacular, ancient desert. For the adventurous traveller, there is plenty to do in this forbidding landscape. Go on a Bedouin-style safari, race camels and eat traditional Arabic food in a tent. We recommend a trip across Al Khor (The Creek) in a water taxi, or a sunset cruise on a traditional dhow.

Arts and culture.

Arts and culture

Naysayers would argue that art and culture doesn’t exist in Dubai. But like any major city, there is a vibrant art scene underneath the glitz and glamour. Galleries are in high demand by the international crowd, and displaced artists from nearby countries are happy to oblige. The enclosed art and cultural district of Alserkal Avenue houses more than twenty galleries, all with differing genres of contemporary art.
