Which is the best airport to fly into?
Both New York City airports are equidistant from Midtown Manhattan. JFK is the city’s largest airport, situated in the borough of Queens – ideal if you’re planning to base yourself in Brooklyn. Newark is on the other side of the island in New Jersey, offering easy access to lower Manhattan and the Downtown area.
New York City taxis offer flat fares from JFK to Manhattan for $52.50 (plus tolls, surcharges and tips), while taxis are on a metered rate from Newark. If you’re looking to save money – and beat the city’s notorious traffic – both airports have easy-to-use and frequent public transportation links into Manhattan.

Three long haul flight tips for New York
Travelling can be tiring, but there are a few simple steps you can take to make sure you arrive in great shape.
Drink plenty of water to keep you fully hydrated throughout the flight. Limiting your alcohol and caffeine intake will aid this, and could also help you sleep.
You can beat jet lag by adjusting to your new time zone as soon as you get on the plane. If you’re taking a night flight from London, try to stay awake until you land – remember New York is five hours behind GMT. Use our jet lag calculator to find out more.
Move around regularly during the flight and do some simple stretching exercises to keep blood flowing. The slowing of blood circulation is one of the most common effects of jet lag.
